      First Kara Key Frag
      Thursday, December 27, 2007
Pallanen got the first key frag for Kara thanks to a Guild Officer. The Guildie had promised her a couple weeks before that she would arrange a good group into the Shadow Labyrinth and she did just that. It was Christmas Eve and Pally was grinding for Blacksmithing mats in Silithis (sp?) when the Guildie whispered that she had a group ready to go. I wasn't prepared for a long instance run because I was expecting company but as it turns out the run was arranged mostly because of the 'quitting the guild' incident I posted about yesterday. Another Guild friend had read that post from 12/3 and told her. She was under the impression that I wanted to go to SLabs right away. It was a confused mess but as it turns out, all is better now. :)

Anyway, I could have titled this post "Tanking 101" because the group my Guild friend put together was excellent. The Tank was a Dwarf Warrior who totally kicked butt. The Priest was the best I had ever seen. The group was rounded out by my guild friend (a Hunter) and a Shaman. They both obviously knew what they were doing too. It was obvious to me afterward that I have a lot to learn about high level instances.

I got to go in as a second Tank, mostly DPS (which suits me just fine). Pally got to dual wield with her Crystal Blade in the off hand. She was happy. The trip started out easily enough. My one other trip into SLabs wasn't so smooth but after the first engagement in the first room I could see this was going to be different. I'll just try to explain the Boss fights since this post could end up going on forever otherwise. Lets just say that the 'regular' ads were handled very professionally by the group. The Tank and our Guild Officer knew what to do and communicated everything before the fights. Taking out the regulars was fun and easy.

When we got to the second room where the big ugly demon things are, things were a little harder. They would keep casting fear on us but our Priest would take care of that quickly. (Last time in that caused some serious trouble.) The first Boss was a hard fight and he turned out to be another big fear casting guy. We actually managed to kill him on the first try. The Warrior kept saying he wasn't worried and he was right. With him tanking and the priest healing everyone as we cut away, it went very well. That Boss does a thing where he throws an acid breath on who ever is infront of him. It was like mega-puking. lol Didn't hurt too much and we kicked his ass.

Then came the second Boss. He was big and ugly and did a mind contol thing that made me crazy. He would cast it and suddenly I would find Pally attacking our group members. It happened a lot and got to the point that when it happened I was happy to be fighting the Warrior in the group. When I turned on the Priest I was a little panicked. (I know what damage Pallanen is capable of). He also would knock me back about a mile and that damage was pretty severe. But thanks to the group being what it was, we managed to kill that guy on the first try. :) I understand that killing him is considered very hard. Makes me happy to have been in the group I was in.

The third Boss wasn't too hard really. The Group was again well informed about his special talents and we managed him well. He would run around a lot so I would use my Hamstring and stuns to slow him down. What he would do was to teleport you to the spot he started and then rain fire on your head. The Warrior told us before hand that when you are teleported just run asap in whatever direction you are facing because the damage is bad. So we all did that. The fight took a while but it wasn't too bad at all.

Between that Boss and the last one we had our first wipe out. We were pulling the ads (which some were fear casters and some mind controlled again) when one of them managed to aggro the group behind him. That cascaded into the whole room aggroing against us. We put up a good fight but there were just too many.

The next round was better. We managed to pull just one group at a time and kill them off. The maddening thing was that the mind control thing seemed to be working on just Pallanen. She kept turning on the group. One of the group even mentioned that it seemed Pally was the one that was happening to. Maybe because she isn't quite as well specced to guard against it?

Anyway, once we got those nastys killed we went for the Key Frag. That was sort of anti-climactic. We opened the box and some nasty thing came out and we killed it. No fuss, no muss. The Shaman needed it to so that worked out well. Then we went for the big shiny white boss.

Murmur was his name. (The only name I remember). The Warrior warned us that when he goes to do his special thing, some kind of bomb drop, that we should stand clear. He said especially Pally should clear out. I found out the hard way what he meant. The Warrior went in and Tanked him hard. The Priest kept him healed and the rest of us hit him as hard as possible. Then I noticed that something said "Murmur draws energy from the air...." (Probably not exact words) and that told me he was going to do his bombing thing. I turned to run away but Pally couldn't move. He apparently had her stuck against him. I tried but she wouldn't move and then the explosion totally wiped her out.

I rezzed and started the long run back to the fight. I kept watch on the group and saw the Warrior's life going up and down. Then another group member died. (I think the Shaman??) But the others kept at it. By the time I got to the chamber they were celebrating. They killed him before I could get back. Too bad too. Pallanen wanted one more rend shot on his sorry ass. LOL

So that was my adventure for the first key frag. Whew! This post is huge. Thanks to the Guildie putting together a great group we managed it pretty well. I'm told the other 2 frags aren't as bad to get. I'm looking forward to that next. :)

Grats on your first frag!! Getting the key to Kara is a real accomplishment. Also as you heard the next 2 are very easy. They can be reached without even fighting bosses although they both right next to first boss and you might as well see if anything good drops. I really want to read about your experience in Kara when you get in.

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
