      Grouping Nightmares
      Friday, January 4, 2008
Last night was a great one for Granuaile. Thanks to my friend Lisa who helped her with her level 70 Hunter Grainne managed to do 4 quests in The Stockades, the last leg of the Fire Hardened Mail quest in Razorfen Kraul (instance) and one ‘red’ quest in Ashenvale, which happened to be on the way to R.K. The loot she scored in R.K. was awesome too. She now has blues stored up in the bank for several levels to come.

In between we brought Pallanen out and she escorted Lisa’s Druid through The Stockades to do her quests there. We both made out well.

This all got me thinking about how grouping can be such a pain when you don’t have high level friends to help out. I have had such rotten experiences grouping with Pallanen (especially) and then again with Sairalinde that I have a tendency to shy away from groups. But parts of the game require grouping. I think that sucks a bit but it is part of the game and I have to accept it. Especially now when I see how Pallanen will not have access to higher level gear without grouping for instances and PVP.

Pally’s history with groups has been sad. She has been in groups that have abandoned her in The Deadmines, in Gnomer, in Blackfathom, in The Scarlet Monastery, in Zul’Farrik (sp?) and in just plain bad situations. The first time it happened in the Deadmines three of the group got whatever they wanted and left just me and a Mage to fend for ourselves. (It was just after that big mechanical guy in the Mast Room.) Imagine being in the Deadmines the first time, level 20ish with just a Mage and a Warrior together. Naturally, that didn’t work out well.

The worst time for Pally was when she was in the cave just below Nethergard Keep doing a Warrior quest with 2 other Warriors.

Pallanen got the Warrior quest to kill 50 (!!!) of the bad guys just below the Keep and inside the cave there. While doing it 2 other Warriors came by doing the same thing. They asked if I wanted to join them and I did, thinking that Warriors ought to band together. lol Well, we did very well until the other two apparently chatting amongst themselves, got all the kills they needed. Deep inside that cave they just all of a sudden said goodbye and hearthed out leaving Pallanen surrounded by mobs her level and one or two levels higher. Pallanen is tough to kill but the numbers just didn’t add up to a good experience.

I tried to hearth out as soon as I saw what was happening but got attacked. Pally managed to kill off that first one and then I tried to hearth again but that didn’t work out. I tried to retreat back the way we had come but not too far up the path the mobs were respawning. There was never a time when I could have time to hearth. They got Pallanen. Then I rezzed her where I thought she would be OK to get healthy but once she was back to full health these roving mobs found her and killed her again.

Now…… I have a thing for not rezzing at the Spirit Healer. The cost to a Warrior wearing plate is high plus that 10 minutes of sickness is like a huge failure to me. So I tried to fight my way out of the mess I was in 2 more times before I finally gave up.

Pallanen took a beating that day and it cost her in terms of gold and maybe even pride. :P The one thing it also did was make me more determined than ever not to group ever again. From that time on (maybe level 50ish) I never grouped again until recently with good Guild members. None of my alts have grouped again either until recently.

Two days after the cave incident one of those Warriors asked me to group and do the last part of the Warrior quest in the Sunken Temple. I was shocked and really let him have it. He acted all surprised and eventually apologized. Then for a few days he kept asking me to do S.T. I eventually just blocked him. He didn’t get it. One shot at screwing me over is all you get.

To me grouping should be better respected by players of all ages and levels. To get into a group and leave once you have finished with your personal goal(s) is disrespectful and sick. When I do group I never leave until I make sure everyone has gotten what they needed out of whatever we were trying to do. I’m not sure what makes a person feel it’s OK to screw someone over and feel that it is no big deal. It is a very big deal. Yes, it’s just a game. But to me if you are willing to do that to someone in a game, you probably suck in real life too. I don’t want to know you in either situation.

Respect other players. Respect your groups or stay out of them. That’s what I’m trying to say here. A bit long winded but still………… :)

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
