      Scary Stratholme
      Monday, January 14, 2008
I decided to start clearing Pallanen’s backlog of old quests yesterday morning. I have a few I’ve just never gotten around to doing yet. The first two I decided to try were ones in the Eastern Plaguelands. One was the quest to kill the Blightcaller. I knew he was an elite, level 61ish. I also knew he had a couple of dogs with him. But Pallanen handles that level elite pretty well these days so I went after him and his pets first.

      Big mistake.

I sharpened my blades, popped on an extra strength buff and an agility buff and charged in on him. Within about 10 seconds he totally wiped Pallanen up and still had over half his life left. Then the smartass stood there and said, “Next time bring friends.” LOL

I laughed hard about that one. I was thinking “No kidding.”

I tried it again just to see if I had been lazy in the attack but I got the same result. I will definitely need help killing that guy. Once I rezzed after the second time I backed off. Fighting him flags you and being PVP in that area isn’t the best idea.

So I moved on to the next quest which was a Master Swordsmith quest in Stratholme. I had been in a couple of groups that ventured into that instance but we never got very far. If you have never been there you are in for a treat. It is the scariest place I’ve visited yet. The buildings are all perpetually burning. The ads are all sick looking undeads. Even sticking close to the walls away from the ads gets you attacked by slugs that crawl out from the trash and boxes. They give you this nice disease that is debilitating and lasts 30 minutes. It is a beautiful resort town. LOL

Knowing all that I went for it anyway. Like a dope I just rode to the entrance and walked right in. I had forgotten that there is no retreating back out the front way. The gates close behind you. So I got ready and charged the first group. Pally managed to wipe them out fairly easily. But there was only one elite. So I tried out the next group. Two elites there. Pallanen took a beating but managed to kill them. Her health was pretty low though. So I decided to see just how many fights she could avoid since she was 70 and probably wouldn’t agro everything.

      Wrong again.

Sneaking along the wall Pallanen did manage to get past 2 groups and was headed toward the first gate until one of those roving eyes spotted her and set off the alarms. Suddenly everything within eyesight jumped on her. About 30 ads. Needless to say that didn’t work out.

So I got on Thottbot to see if there was a better strategy. I read about the back door to Stratholme and got the shortest directions. Then I rezzed Pally and hearthed out of there because I knew I’d need keys for the door. (I don’t have the Key to the City.) I made some Arcanite Skeleton Keys and repaired her armor (9g 67s!!!) and headed back. Getting inside wasn’t hard. But there turned out to be several gates to open. Luckily I had made 4 keys because it took all of them. I easily managed to avoid the groups in the roadway and got to the last gate and opened it. I pulled the closest single elite and moved on. Unfortunately there was a single group of 3 elites I did have to fight and when I was killing them one of those darn eye things saw me again. Once again the whole evil place jumped Pallanen. Once again, a trip back from the graveyard.

But it is an instance so the dead guys were still dead. I got back to where they were, looted them and moved on around the corner. There on the ground was what I was looking for. I grabbed the plans for the sword “Corruption” and then killed the Black Swordsmith guy who popped up. (I was expecting him.) Then I looted him for the quest item. What I wasn’t expecting were the slugs that crawled out from under the boxes and kept attacking Pallanen. (The ones I warned you about earlier.) They were easy to kill but they gave her 2 different diseases that are very debilitating. They last 30 minutes each too. That was a bummer because within sight was a large chest just waiting for me to open and loot. But in her condition I knew getting past the ads guarding it was not happening.

So I hearthed back to Shat, got a repair job (5g, 86s), found a Dranei that cured my diseases and headed to Winterspring to turn in the quest. The reward was the plans for the “Blazing Rapier”. Those I can make and sell unlike “Corruption” which is a ‘Bind on Pickup’ item.

So to further my Blacksmithing I spent 15g, 53s in repairs, about 2 hours game time, 2 gold in a tip for the healing (which wasn’t asked for, I just gave) and learned some stuff about attacking elites before knowing who and what they are. (Specifically the Blightcaller.) Know thy enemy is a good idea. lol

All in all, it was fun at least. Somehow I feel the need to get back into Stratholme and get that darn chest. It feels like unfinished business. Isn’t that weird? It probably isn’t even in the same location but I know that it will bug me. Maybe sometime soon I’ll have a (shorter) story posted about that particular treasure hunt. :P

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
