      Gruul Is Dead
      Saturday, June 28, 2008
Gruul "died the death of a thousand hollers" Friday night at the hands of TLS and some friends. LOL

He deserved it too. He was a royal pain in the butt.

As planned, we went into Gruul's Lair Friday night and managed to wipe him out on our first try. The fight was well coordinated by the Leader(s) and everyone kept to the plan. It was one of the best feelings I’ve had playing WoW. It was our 3rd shot at it and we got it done. I guess the 3rd time really is the charm. :P

Pallanen almost missed it too. I had dinner plans that night that I had forgotten about. Early afternoon I regrettably took my name off the list and posted a shout-out on the Guild page about it. I was so bummed that I would miss it. But the mexican food and the Margaritas were awesome so during the time out I didn't think about it. LOL

When I got home I logged on to see how we were doing. The Guildies told me they had just downed the High King and were getting ready for Gruul. I wished them well and went on to do some AH stuff. Then the Raid Leader whispered to me and asked if I wanted to join for the Gruul fight. I was so psyched!

So we went in and killed him on the first try. It was exciting and relieving at the same time. Not much to say about the details of the fight. We kept up the DPS as the healers did a great kob. Pallanen got wiped when Gruul was at 10%. I'm not sure how or why. She was 100% one second and the next she was 0%. Weird.

This time around Pallanen scored some loot. Gruul dropped 3 Badge of Justice and a lot of good armor. There was a pair of nice T4 DPS plate gloves in the stash of dropped items. (I forget the name right now.) Pallanen was awarded the gloves without rolling for them. Apparently Pally was the one and only DPS Warrior in the group. I wonder if she is the one and only in the Guild?

Some good plate leggings dropped too. Several of them. Pallanen got to roll for those but lost. I sorta felt bad about rolling for something after I had gotten the gloves but the Guild Leader made the decision. It really doesn't matter anyway. No matter how many groups Pallanen has been in she has rarely won a roll for anything. The Guildies are safe when Pally gets to roll. lol

Here is a screenshot of Pally with the dead Gruul. I took this after most of the group bugged out. It was too crowded otherwise. We did do a group shot when he went down so I'm expecting that to show up on the website.

Just for fun here is a shot of one of the groups (I forget which one) and the dead High King.

So now I have decided to get more involved with the Kara Raids. I'd like Pallanen to be outfitted the best she can be. Plus finally winning that fight was a blast. I guess Pally will have to break out the tanking gear for Kara sometimes. She can't always go as DPS. But in the end, it should be worth it.

      .....And Other Than Gruul's.....
      Wednesday, June 25, 2008
I haven't really updated the blog other than Gruul's lately. I guess it's time today for that. :)

Pallanen has still been very busy. I have been doing the dailies in Qel'Danas a lot. Pallanen is now Exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive. That netted her some cool stuff. She got the Shattered Sun Pendant of Might for DPS and the Shattered Sun Pendant of Resolve which suits Tanking better. I will equip one or the other depending on what situation Pally is in at the time.

She also got Glyph of the Gladiator giving 18 stamina and 20 resilience to her helm and The Dawnforged Defender which is a nice tanking shield. Much nicer than the one she had at the time.

I have also managed to get Pallanen her epic flying mount. I was hesitant about that since it cost 5200 gold total but as soon as I started flying I was sold. It is the most awesome thing to have in the game. Doing the dailies around the Outlands got a whole lot easier. So has mining. Its nice. :)

I will probably stilll do dailies even though Pallanen is as high as she can get with the Shattered Sun. There are other dailies with different factions to do. But I can do all the Qel'Danas ones in an hour and collect well over 100 gold. The dailies are easy and fun. There are some in Shatt that also count toward the Shattered Sun rep. that I like to do. Doing those adds about a half hour but the gold per night is around 150. Basically it is easy money and a good time.

I have used the gold to get Sairalinde her epic riding mount. That makes her quests in Outland easier. I have used the gold to get Pallanen some great enchants & upgrade my little girls armor and weapons. It is a nice perk of being 70. :P

Sairalinde is now 61. I will work with her every now and then and get her to 70. Doing quests with a Hunter is a lot easier than with a Warrior. I can see her being 70 soon.

I have also been casually doing some Battlegrounds with Pallanen. I knew the T2 Armor would be available via BGs on the 24th so I wanted to have some points saved up. The BGs aren’t any different than I remember them. (That’s not a good thing BTW). They are still full of finger pointers and complainers. Lots of noobs running around the BGs screwing up the works. But now I am not so bent on finishing them so I deal with it better.

Last night Pallanen was in an AV that really had me scratching my head. We took all the towers and the RH. But the Horde took back the RH and the East Tower. No matter what I tried to do to get people rallied they wouldn't get together to take care of business. Meanwhile the Horde didn't take even one of our important places except Stonehearth.

I asked why no one wanted to take the RH and I was asked why we should. What advantage it was to us. So I explained it and then the dolts actually told me we didn’t need to kill Drek so we didn’t need the RH. We were winning without killing Drek is what they said. I just laughed and asked them if they understood the honor points Drek and the East Tower were worth. No one cared. In the end we had a 25 minute turtle and got just a bit over 400 honor. It should have been a 12-14 minute win with at least 600 honor since the Horde did nothing. The group just didn’t understand that even when I explained it to them.

I think getting the T2 armor will be a slow process. lol But I don't mind this time around. I am doing one of each BG every night and thats it. Eventually I'll get there.

Being a Fury Warrior in the Battlegrounds is not so much fun. Pallanen now has a hard time with Rogues. As an Arms Warrior she rarely lost to them. She also has a hard time with other Warriors. If I were doing the BGs exclusively I would change back to Arms but I'm not. It is annoying to lose fights to characters you shouldn't lose to though.

Friday is Gruul's again. I think we'll kill him this time around. I'm looking forward to it.

Oh! I almost forgot... I was chosen to be eligible to have a Figure Print done of Pallanen. It's on the WoW Website if you are interested. What it means is that they take a screenshot of your character and use a computer to digitally fashion a little statue of her. Then thay make the statue. Very cool! Soon Pallanen will be sitting on my mantle keeping watch as we quest through Azeroth together. lol

Thats about it for now. Tonight I will be doing my 4 BGs and the dailies. Unless something more interesting comes along. Maybe along the way Sairalinde will get a couple of quests in too.

2% Of Grull Is A Lot More Than It Seems
      Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Pallanen went into Gruul’s Lair again this weekend. The Guild is determined to kill that big, ugly guy. We went in with a good group, almost entirely made up of our Guild. We did have to fill in with some others. (Forgive me since I can’t remember their Guild name.) They were great players and helped a lot.

The fight started out really well. We didn’t have an unintentional agro pull to start out like the first 2 visits. lol The groups lined up and did their thing but once again, somehow during the fight, something somewhere went wrong (where I couldn’t see) and we ended up running for it. Pally didn’t make it past those darn demon dogs, or whatever they are, and got it just before the exit.

We set up and went at it again but the second try went sour very fast. No one was really sure what happened. I don’t have Vent so maybe they figured it out chatting together. I don’t know. But anyway, our third try went as planned. We set up, pulled the goons to the right places and for the first time it went easily. We killed the King and all his cronies and it felt pretty easy. The first two missteps didn’t seem that bad after taking down High King that 3rd time. It feels like we have the fight down now despite starting out like we did.

This time the loot the King dropped was for Rogues, Shamans and Druids so Pallanen didn’t get to roll for anything. My Guildie friend Blue got the nice shoulders this time. That was cool.

So we went forward and wiped up the trash mobs on the way to Gruul. We got there, got set up and started on him. The first fight went like the past week. We got him to 46% and wiped. But that was actually pretty encouraging since that’s the best we had done is several tries the week before. The next fight was much better.

By now we have figured out how to avoid most of old Gruul’s damage. This next round we just seemed to have it. No matter how long it was taking and how many times he grew we still had the group together, up and fighting. It was awesome to see his health fall below 46%. Then 30%. Then 20%. Pallanen was doing well all this time. She does crit a lot so I’m sure she was doing a decent amount of damage. I remember thinking once Gruul hit 10% that we had finally managed to get this one down. I thought too soon.

When Gruul was at 4% something happened to Pally. Something bad. I’m not sure if she hit Grull with a huge crit or what but Pallanen was at full health one second and then she was dead the next second. At 4%! I was so pissed! It could have been that she critted him big since at that level of Gruul’s health Pally was using her Execute a lot. Maybe. I must have hit Gruul hard enough that Pallanen pulled agro from the Tank.

But the rest group was still OK. They kept at him while I watched from the ground. I was talking to all of them as they kept whittling Gruul down. He got to 3% and I was yelling at them to keep going. Gruul dropped to 2% and I was acting like a cheerleader, even though no one could hear me. I was psyched.

Then suddenly things went bad. It looked like we still had a good group up but that darn 2% wouldn’t drop. I kept waiting for the 1% but it was not dropping. Then Gruul started running around chasing one fighter at a time and my heart sank. That told me we had lost someone (or several someones) that were important. I watched in disbelief as Gruul ran around stomping on the remainder of the Guildies and Guild friends and his health never dropped below 2%. When the smoke cleared (figuratively) we had missed killing Gruul by a measly 2%. It was very sad somehow.

But no one was real depressed. A lot of people were pissed, like me. :) But for the most part we were actually psyched and ready to go. We felt like we had this one down now. We tried a couple more times and the best that we did was get Gruul down to 12%. Then people had to leave. We didn’t finish him off that night but we all can see that he will be done for very soon. Once we are past that 2% we will all be so relieved. But lemme tell ya, 2% of Gruul is a lot more than it sounds. LOL

This time around the whole Raid was much better. The time between fights was minimal. The group worked well together and no one got fussy and bummed. Pallanen still isn’t doing enough damage. They showed the stats after the King fight and Pallanen was still not where she needs to be in terms of dealing damage. Blue gave me a really nice Gem that added +8 crit and that helped but the bottom line is that Pally is in PVP gear trying to be a Fury Warrior. It’s not the best fit. I need to get her into other groups to get good PVE raiding armor to be more effective. But for now, this is the best she has.

This Friday we are raiding Gruul’s again. I think we should be able to get him this time. Between now and then I will be gathering the best PVE gear I can find and hopefully Pallanen will be a bigger help. All the Guild needs is to be 2% better. :)

      Gruul's Lair - Round Two
      Monday, June 16, 2008
Pallanen went with the Guildies on a Raid of Gruul's Lair Friday. It was her second time there. This time I was looking forward to it a lot more since she is now Fury specced. I was hoping to see a marked improvement in how much damage she can do to the bad guys.

While we were setting up for the first attack someone got too close and accidentally pulled the King and his cronies. No one was ready for that. Our first wipe came before we actually started. I only mentioned that because the first trip Pally made to Gruul's the same thing happened. At least we are consistant. lol

We got going at a slow pace but once the action started I was feeling pretty good about it. I was in the group assigned to kill Blindeye. Just like my first visit to Gruul's things were going well when all of a sudden nobody was around. Blindeye was down to about 2% health and then he took off. It turns out he was chasing the Guildies out of the place. I guess something elsewhere had broken down because everyone was running. The ones still alive that is. :)

I tried to get out too since I was (as usual) the last left behind. Let's chalk that up to being too focused on the fight, K? It has nothing to do with slow reactions. ;)

Naturally I didn't make good on the escape. They got me before I could exit.

After being rezzed and regrouping we went at it again. This time we didn't get Blindeye down as far when the group broke and ran. At least I managed to take off quicker but in the end they got me trying to escape. Right beside the exit too.

This scenario happened a few times before things changed. We killed Blindeye once and then got wiped somehow and then things got better. We killed Blindeye on the next attack and I got to go to the secondary target. I think it was a Warlock. It was some guy in purple anyway. But we killed him too and then I got to attack the High King. The Guildies had already killed the other 2 stooges.

Pallanen jumped right in and to help with the King. He wasn't all that bad without all his buds. He did do this whirlwind thing that did serious damage but as long as we stayed clear of it It wasn't so bad. We kept at it and killed the King and suddenly there was silence. The whole place was empty of bad guys. Then the celebration started. Part one was complete. We were all psyched.

That King guy dropped some good stuff. Quite a bit of good stuff to be sure. The only thing that Pallanen could have used was a nice set of shoulder armor but she wasn't allowed to roll for it. The main tank needed them and so did one of the regular raiders. They rolled and the Tank got them. But Pally did get 2 Badges of Justice.

So we regrouped and headed toward Gruul himself. Killing the trash mobs there was no biggie but they were tougher than I expected. Being new to raids, whadda I know anyways, eh? lol Then we were face to face with Gruul himself. After killing a lot of his sons I was looking forward to this fight.

The group set up all around Gruul. We were told that being too close together was a bad idea. The Tank went in and got the aggro and then I charged and was using every trick Pally had. But Gruul did something that hurt a lot. He would ground slam and throw Pally about a mile away. Then suddenly she would be frozen in place and something else happened where a lot of her health would go away. I looked it up. Its called "Shatter". If you are near someone else the damage is way worse. If you are near enough to 5 people when he does his Shatter then the damage all 5 of you receive is 5 times greater. Sneaky little weapon old Gruul has there. Anyway, that part of Gruul sucked. He does get bigger and bigger but it was that tossing everyone around and shattering that made for the most headaches. We wiped that first time.

Then we wiped the second time too. lol

The third time we did better. We were getting the hang of avoiding the major damage during Gruul's slams and shatters. The Tank was doing an awesome job of holding his aggro. We were doing really well but his health was going down slowly. It was annoying. I remember thinking that last time once he was below 50% that we might actually win. But it didn't happen. I'm not sure what happened but things went bad fast. Gruul started running around a bit. I guess someone important had died and it broke our rythmn. The Tank was still up so I'm not sure. But that fight ended up with us wiped and Gruul at 46% (maybe it was 47%?). Either way we didn't win.

That was the last try for the evening. It was very late by then and a lot of the Guildies had to get going. Myself included. We made some serious progress during this raid. But we still need to get the timing down for killing Gruul. My friend at work tells me that killing the High King is much harder than killing Gruul. All we need to do is get the knack of avoiding his big weapons and he's an easy kill.

      Uh huh. lol

So here are the things I liked about this raid. I liked the groups ability to work together. I liked the great loot even though I didn't get any. Someday I will. I liked the challenge af such an epic fight.

Things I didn't like were the 45 gold in repairs. I didn't like the wasted time in between fights. For whatever reason it took anywhere from 15 30 minutes to regroup and get started between wipes. (I was getting really frustrated by that.) I also was very disappointed to see that Pallanen didn't as much damage that the others in the DPS group did.

Pally's low damage was seriously annoying. The top 4-5 damage dealers were Hunters. I'm used to that. But out of 10 in my group, Pallanen was last. The totals were something like 335,000 damage for Pally and the next one was 345,000. The top was over 400,000. I was brainstorming with my work friend. His Warrior is always top 4-5 in his Guild. He hooked me up with a good site for detailing the gear and spec and gems and all that to make Pallanen better. She did OK. If you divide the damage by the 10 wipes she isn't all that far off from the group. But she needs to be better. I will make her better.

So thats the second trip to Gruul's Lair. I'll probably go back for another round. It wasn't too bad. If we could just get the gaps between fighting down to a decent minimum it would be really fun. I will if for nothing else, to test out how Pallanen's build is progressing. But I also really want to kill that ugly Gruul.

I really, really want to kill him. :)

      I Have Returned
      Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I have been very busy this past couple of weeks. One of those weeks I spent at the Beach. 10 days of it actually. It was a great trip. :)

I didn't even have too much WoW withdraw when I was away. I was surprised. Maybe I needed a break? But since then I have been very busy. Pallanen now has been working on getting her epic flying mount. That is still so far away. I need to be patient. Grrr! But we'll get there. She has also been doing the dailies in Qel'Danas. It took me a while to get there and figure out what was happening but now I've been going almost every day to do the quests. What decided it for me was seeing all the great armor and weapons you can earn there when your reputation is high enough. Of course you also need to have a bunch of "Badge of Justice" to trade in. Which brings me to another chapter in Pallanen's journey....

Getting those badges means doing instances. Sometimes even having to Group up in PUGs...*shudder... We all know how much I don't like groups but it seems that I have no choice anymore. Truthfully, I have learned to like grouping with my Guildies. Other than a couple of annoying characters it is mostly fun. But PUGs aren't too fun. Sooo.....

      Ok, got off track there.....

.....so I respecced Pallanen this weekend. She is now a full-fledged Fury Warrior. She is using a spec that WoWWiki referred to as "Ripper". I realized that I had 2 choices when it comes to instances. Either go full into Tanking or be a serious enough damage dealer that taking Pallanen along into an instance wouldn't be a liability to the group. Arms spec wasn't good for either scenario even though I really liked it. So I looked into a Raiding build so Pallanen would be more welcome on Raids and "Ripper" it was. lol

Now she does some serious damage. Whether its PVP, Raids or even PVE. According to WoWWiki, the Ripper spec gives the Warrior the ability to deal damage rivaling a Rogue. It appears this is true. But unlike a Rogue my Warrior girl also has the advantage of wearing awesome plate armor. So far, I really like the change. Pally has lost a bit of armor % but for the most part things are great. Plus on her main hand sword she has Executioner and on her off hand she has Mongoose. She is now very scary to the bad guys. :P

Not everything has been so easy to learn though. Last night I was doing one of the dailies that starts in Qel'Danas but you have to get armaments in Shadowmoon. I had to find this area just outside The Black Temple. (I forget the name of the place.) I have never been to the Black Temple nor even very far into Shadowmoon. I was there once just for my flying mount. Anyway, I found the place and was killing bad guys, getting the armaments when suddenly some thing attacked Pallanen. It was a roving elite demon that I didn't notice. Pally actually put up a good fight but the elite and another bad guy killed her. Then, no matter how I tried I could not find my way back inside that place to rez. I travelled all around that temple and could not find the way in. So eventually I rezzed at the Spirit Healer and got on the flying mount to scout the area. It turns out the entrance was easy to get to. It was also very close by. I just couldn't see it. It was hard to see as a wisp I guess. Lesson learned; scout around a new area before starting a quest. lol

While I was baking on the beach I did think a lot about what to do with my WoW girls. I don't think I'll delete any (with the possible exception of the Warlock) but I have realized that it will be a long time before they get to 70 (or 80). I want Pallanen to get her epic flyer, the best gear possible and max out her Blacksmithing first. So the little girls will have to wait a bit longer.

Except for Sairalinde. I do feel like I really want to get Sairalinde to 70. Its been on my mind a lot. I have screwed around way too much with her. She should have been 70 months ago. I am planning on finding time to quest with her in between all the fun Pallanen is having. Not sure how I'll accomplish it but that is the plan at least. Of course, the way my attention wanders, that plan may change before the next time I log on again. I guess we'll see. lol

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
