      Looking For Clarification
      Thursday, January 31, 2008
I'm a little confused. I have been studying Tanking a lot lately. I have been doing that a lot to be a better Tank so that if/when the Guild needs me Pallanen can be ready. But I have a question.

Most every post I see about Tanking, especially on Thottbot, says that the best Tanking weapon available pre-heroic instance raiding is the Crystalblade of the Dranei. I have one. (At one point in time I had 3.) Here are the stats:

      Crystalblade of the Draenei

      Binds when equipped
      One-Hand Sword
      70 - 131 Damage Speed 1.60
      (62.8 damage per second)
      195 Armor
      +18 Stamina
      Durability 90 / 90
      Requires Level 66
Equip: Increases defense rating by +13 (5.5)

      Item Level 103

But recently I managed to get this Dagger.

      Ced's Carver
      Binds when equipped
      One-Hand Dagger
      103 - 155 Damage Speed 1.80
      (71.7 damage per second)
      +13 Stamina
      Durability 65 / 65
      Requires Level 70
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 16 (0.7%).

Equip: Increases attack power by 30.

      Item Level 115

From what I've read, effective Tanking requires a weapon with a fast speed to generate more rage, which both have. It requires high DPS for drawing aggro, which both have. But the dagger has much higher stats in both areas and is pretty much the same speed. Plus additional critical strike rating and more attack power should make the dagger a better tanking weapon. I'm thinking the Dagger is a better tank weapon (until I get something better someday).

So the question is, am I wrong here? Is there some reason why a sword is considered better for tanking or am I thinking in the right direction? All the chatter I read about the Crystalblade makes it seem like I should be using it.

Personally, I absolutely love this dagger. It has a very cool black cloud glow surrounding it. I am considering buying a second one (if I can find one on the AH) just for the very cool way it looks. Imagine dual wielding something that looks like very dangerous black clouds in your hands. Plus, it appears that adding an enchant to the blade does not change that cloud effect.

Anyway, if someone stops by here who has some knowledge about the game and tanking and reads this post, please leave me a comment to let me know what the deal is. If you don't have a Blogger ID, just use the Haloscan comment box. You need no formal ID for that one. I'd appreciate any input. :)

      Hellfire Bites
Last night was kind of a Blah! night for me. I couldn't decide who I wanted to play. I started with Sairalinde and doing that reminded me of something... I really don't like Hellfire. I remember when Pallanen first got there how I would do a few quests and have to stop and play another alt to take a break. Hellfire is very annoying somehow. The same thing is happening with Sairalinde. I do a few quests and the whole scene just starts bugging me a lot.

I'm going to make a concerted effort over the weekend to finish every quest there so I can move on to Zangermarsh asap. I like questing there. I like Nagrand, Terrokar and Everlook a lot too. But until Sairalinde levels a few more times it won't be safe for her to move on. I will get her out of Hellfire fast. :)

I also realized how playing Warriors has spoiled me for other alts. Saira has the most up to date armor but when an ad jumps her she takes a beating fast. She gets killed easier than I expected. I'm used to being able to stand toe to toe with most monsters but thats because Pally spoiled me. I mentioned to Lisa how Saira gets killed easy and she said, "It happens a lot here." I was thinking, "Not for my Warrior girl." lol

So after a few quests I took a break and (naturally) logged onto Granuaile. Even though her xp bar had very little blue I played her for a while. She leveled again to 39. This weekend she will be 40 and get her mount. :) Thats when I realized that she will be ready to do the Armorsmith quests. Armorsmith is available at level 40. So I decided to get Pallanen out and gather mats for all those things Grainne will need to make to be an Armorsmith. The list is amazing. Check it out:

      Iron Bar: 40
      Mithril Bar: 342
      Truesilver Bar: 26
Solid Grinding Stone: 9 (This equals 36 Solid Stone)
      Thick Leather: 22
      Mageweave Cloth :18
      Black Pearl: 4
      Citrine: 4
      Aquamarine: 3
      Heart of Fire: 1
      Steel Bar: 30
Heavy Grinding Stone: 12 (This equals 36 Heavy Stone)

(That also equals 33 bag/bank slots.)

Quite a haul there. So Pallanen did a few circles around the Badlands gathering stuff and killing Ogres for Mageweave. It was a great night to gather Truesilver. Sometimes you hit it just right and get a bunch. Sometimes for days you get none.

So.... I got bored with that fast and logged onto Merenwen. I knew I had been neglecting her so I got all her mats out for Tailoring. Her bank and bags were stuffed full. It took an hour to finish all that. She had so much Silk and a lot of Mageweave that I made 2 bags worth of stuff for the AH. Her level in Tailoring went way over 250. (I forget what it is right now.) She now is into the Runecloth stuff. I also did some Enchanting and now she can do Enchanted Thorium and Enchanted Leather.

Hopefully tonight I will feel more of a direction. I will take Pallanen around to gather more stuff since the order for Armorsmith mats is a tall one. But that gets tiring fast so most likely I will be in Hellfire with Sairalinde a lot. *sigh

      Wish Sairalinde luck. :)

      Fun in Outlands
      Tuesday, January 29, 2008
I haven't posted anything of relevance lately so I thought I'd do a quick update.

I spent a lot of time with Granuaile over the weekend. She is now level 38. Her Blacksmithing has risen to 225 and her mining to 191. Since joining Ladies of Legend 10 days ago Granuaile has leveled 7 times. Quite a busy time, eh? I managed to do all the quests in Southshore and most in Arathi. Granuaile is a toughie for sure. I got the quest from the Magistrate in Southshore to go to the Ruins of Alterac and kill Warmongers. I remembered Pallanen having a hard time of it there (but of course, they were elites back then). But I went ahead and tried it anyway.

Granuaile was 36 when she went there. The ads were 40-41. She killed her quota without too much trouble at all. She even helped a level 41 Warrior finish her quest. That Warrior was impressed with Grainne. Funny thing about her though was that she didn't know about the quest line for the Whirlwind Sword. I think she planned on going for it after seeing Granuailes :)

Last night I took her to the Badlands hoping it wouldn't bee too hard for her. I was wrong. There are just too many monsters there. The Warrior just couldn't get a break. She got into so many 2-3 on one fights it was exasperating. There were a few trips to the graveyard but she did manage to do several quests anyway. Killing the Rock Elementals was hard on Granuaile. They were all 40-42. I inadvertantly ran into a few 44's but thankfully a Night Elf Hunter saved me. lol

The best accomplishment Granuaile made in the Badlands was to find the dead Dwarf Agmond and avenge him. She got to his body and accepted the quest to kill Murdaloc the Trogg leader. It was very hard. He always had a Shaman with him and he was level 42. Granuaile killed the whole camp but could not get Murdaloc alone. The darn caster kept hurting her way too much. So I brought Pallanen over. :P

Pally killed the caster and left Granuaile alone with the creepy Trogg leader. She handily killed him and completed the quest. It's nice to have big sisters looking out for you. :)

Now Granuaile's bar is purple again so she will have to rest for a while. *sigh

Sairalinde is now in Outlands. She is 58, just 2 bars from 59. I spent Sunday cleaning up her quest log so I could take her to Outlands with a clean slate. Along the way she leveled to 57 and then in Hellfire she quickly leveled again. Saira's quest log had only 4 quests left in it before going to Honor Hold. All 4 are in the Sunken Temple. I really don't like that place but one is a Hunter quest I really want to do so I didn't dump any of them. My friend Lisa will help me get those done.

Lisa and I did some questing in Hellfire together. Her Priest is 59. A Hunter and a Priest together is not too bad a combination. We did well but we did take a wrong turn at the Armory where all the Ghosts are and found ourselves in a number of bad scrapes. Her girl died once but thanks to my Cat we managed to do a lot of damage there. At one point we had 6 ads on us but still managed to come out of it. My Pet has the maximum Stamina and Armor and it pays off. :)

I noticed something about the Outlands that I had forgotten. The quest rewards are so much better there. I turned in 2 quests and the green items they offered as rewards were better than the blues Saira has. In a way that is a bummer since Saira (and Pally) have spent time and gold getting her the best stuff. But in another way it is sweet since Saira will now be even better equipped. No complaints. Just observations.

I have been contacted twice in the last week by Pallanen's Guildies concerning Pally getting set up for Kara. The Guild is raiding Kara now and it sounds like it has gone well. But they want Pallanen to go along as second tank I guess. Maybe third? I don't know how all that works but I really have been lax getting her ready for raids. I need to make time for that soon.

So thats where my girls are now. The other girls don't get much play time right now. Other than to enchant/disenchant, prospect or to transmute things. But their time is coming. Once Sairalinde is 70 I will be leveling Granuaile and either Jaelle or Merenwen. Not really sure who will be the one first but the time is coming. Poor Merenwen is probably hoping I will let her alone for a little while longer. I have a really hard time trying to play a Caster. I'm so used to melee fighting I get Merenwen killed a lot. Maybe I'll let her rest a few more months. She will probably appreciate it. :P

      WoW!
      Sunday, January 27, 2008
The title of this post will be obvious when you look at these pics. (Besides, puns are fun sometimes too.) Granuaile got some new armor that is..... well, sexy is the only word to describe it. OK, Hot, sexy, awesome.... whatever. Not something I expected at all when I put it on her.

Pallanen found these leggings during a mining run and they are great. They are blue with awesome stats so I sent them to Granuaile and when she put them on I was surprised to say the least.

I suppose this is the new Victoria's Secret Warrior Woman's line of armor? It's what all the Warrior Ladies are wearing now. Grainne is up with the trends. lol

(No, I don't run her around without the cloak. It's kind of an odd feeling just running her around in her underwear so that would really feel weird.)

      Granuaile The Twink
      Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Granuaile has become my favorite alt. I didn't know it would be so much fun to have another Warrior. I made all the other girls mostly to learn from them how to better equip Pallanen for fighting similar ads and doing PVP. I hesitated having another Warrior because I thought it would be dull. I was wrong.

I have found that playing Granuaile is the best! It is obvious now why but for some reason the thought never occurred to me. Grainne not only can avoid the mistakes I made with Pallanen but she also has big sisters who really take good care of her. Where Pallanen learned everything the hard way (experience that helped all the girls), Granuaile is able to brutalize her way through every circumstance with relative ease. These days whenever her xp bar is blue, I am playing her. Sometimes even when it's purple. :P

It stands to reason that we learn from mistakes. So with every quest I have a better plan. With every new level I check for better armor and weapons. With the hard quests, Pallanen's friends help out. Granuaile levels fast even when the quest should be impossible for her. The Fire Hardened armor quests for example. A good part of those were very hard or group quests. A lot of that chain should have required some help. Only in Razorfen did she need help. The Whirlwind Sword Warrior quest chain (I forget the proper title) is another good example. Granuaile got the Whirlwind Sword at level 30. Pallanen didn't manage it until level 41.

Then Pally's friend gave the sword a nice Icy Chill enchant. (I wanted that enchant to help slow down ads attacking her. I was afraid the slow speed would cause her too much damage. I was wrong.) Here is a pic of Granuaile with the sword.

This is actually a very current pic of Granuaile. The tabard is (obviously) from her new Guild, Ladies of Legend. I really wanted her in that Guild because she is awesome, soon to be legend. lol

Here is another pic I just threw in because I think it's cool. It is an action shot from Stonetalon Mountain. Granuaile was fighting one of those flying lion things (Wyvern??)

Granuaile is on her way to being a Fury spec warrior. I was not sure about that direction until I started taking chances with her and the new two-handed sword. Pally never used a two-hander. I didn't like them. But once I got comfortable with Granuaile using it I kept going. Soon I realized that using that weapon in combination with the Berserker Stance was a deadly combo. I found that out the hard way in Duskwood when she was level 31. I was killing werewolves outside the mine, Roland's Doom, when I made a bad pull and found myself fighting 4 ads. All were level 30 or 31. But Granuaile killed them all with half her health still intact. I was stunned. When Pallanen was in that area she struggled with just 2 ads at a time. But Granuaile is far better equipped.

So this started me thinking about some of the other things Pally had trouble with. Especially one in particular. There is one monster that Pally still kills every time she is in the Raven Hill area. Mor'Ladim. That monster killed Pallanen many times when she was questing there. While she was working on a quest, he would just pop up out of no where it seemed and send her to the graveyard. For many levels, every time Pallanen would level, I would go back and see if she could kill him solo. It took a long time. To this day she still kills his ass for revenge.

But Granuaile on the other hand..... well, I had the quest so I ran over there and tracked him down. He was still big and ugly. Still a 31 Elite with lots of armor. But I went after him and wiped him up on the first try. No problem at all. :)

So I get the term "Twink" now. For a long time that word bugged me. I still don't care for it but I get it now. Granuaile is a pamperd Warrior with all the advantages. Experience, Gold, Weapons and Armor. Everything she needs. (Her First Aid is already into the Netherweave levels! lol) Pallanen earned everything the hard way and it was a totally different game for her. Much harder. But these days playing a Warrior like Granuaile makes for a wide open game plan. I think I should be able to get her to 70 before very long. I also plan on getting her into the PVP Gear that Pally never had. She will do all the instances and be the best alt I have.

Gushing enough? Maybe, but this is fun. And isn't that why we play games in the first place? Uh huh. :P

      Death Of A Guild
      Tuesday, January 22, 2008
Sometimes things don't go so well for a good Guild. Sairalinde and Merenwen were in a Guild that was doing well. But recently the Guild Master has been absent and from the way it sounds, may not be back. The message was that he was disbanding the Guild completely and our members were referred to another Guild.

Naturally this caused major turmoil. Many members jumped ship fast. My girls didn't mainly because one of the Officers, who I considered a friend, kept telling me to stay put. She kept telling me that her and the one other high level Officer would straighten things out.

Then about 2 weeks ago I noticed she wasn't in the Guild anymore. Guild chat was going crazy talking about it. In a very heated, insulting manner. Apparently not only had she bailed out but had pretty much cleaned out the Guild bank of anything of value. Yikes! Needless to say, for days afterward that was the talk.

But I continued on with the reassurances of the one remaining Officer that things would be OK. Personally, I was fine with things. Mostly my part in the Guild was to help anyone when they needed it. I like doing that so it wasn't a big deal to me. Plus, with the diminishing ranks, it wasn't happening all that much anymore so I got more real play time. lol

Then over the weekend I noticed that the Guild chat was a lot different. Not so much going on about the game. Not too much going on but childish, stupid chatter. (Kind of like the Trade channel.) A lot of swearing and talk about smoking pot. Yada yada yada.... It was very annoying.

Now, I'm no prude. I can (and have) mixed it up with the best of them. But to me, that kind of stuff can be whispered and others don't need to be annoyed by it. Plus, there are some young people playing the game and that bugged me. Needless to say I was unimpressed.

But things aren't all hunky-dorey in Pallanen's Guild either. One of the long time, high ranking officers quit and started her own Guild. I don't know the details but I know I like her a lot. Then my friend from Pally's guild added one of her alts to the new guild. So last night when the opportunity arose, I took Sairalinde out of her crumbling Guild and joined my friend(s) in their new one. Merenwen is now without a Guild because I realized after Saira was out that it was simply a giant relief to be away from all that and took her out too.

So now Sairalinde gets to help start the new Guild. I believe there are 9 members so far. lol Just like the old days. Saira's old Guild may not make it but who knows? Stranger things have happened. I wish them well.

It is just a game after all. When you feel relief because of changing something in a game it is obvious it wasn't working for you. We don't play games for the politics nor for the feeling of hierarchy. We're not supposed to anyway. It is supposed to be fun. I think for myself (and my girls) I did the right thing.

      Nice Weekend
      Monday, January 21, 2008
My girls were very busy this weekend. On Friday Pallanen pulled off something that, in the reality of the game, means nothing. But for me it was awesome. She managed to wipe out the Windreaver and all his Whirling Invaders all by herself. Every single one of them. It was a task but it was satisfying.

Pally happened to be there because as soon as I logged on a Guildie asked for help with a hard quest. So I went and helped him. Once I was there I thought I might as well grind the Dust Stormers a while for Core of Elements, Essence of Air and Elemental Air. All sell well and my other girls use some of that stuff. Along the way I hoped to get lucky and get a few Breath of Wind.

While I was grinding, maybe only 10 minutes into it. the Windreaver popped in with all his Invaders. He is very hard to kill because he has 4-5 bodyguards with him. But the place was deserted and I knew there would be no help. So I decided to give it a shot anyway. :P

I cleared the path ahead of him of all extra ads and then charged in. I hit the Intimidating Shout to chase away his friends for a few seconds and kept crushing him with my Devastate move. To my surprise, I wiped him up with significant life left. I ran to a safe distance long enough to heal up and then proceeded to kill all the Whirling Invaders on both sides of the valley. (They only respawn as long as the Windreaver is alive.) No one else showed up at all and I eventually wiped them up. Along the way I collected 102 Core of Elements, 47 Essence of Air, 22 Elemental Air and 10 Breath of Wind. Nice haul for not even planning on being there.

On Saturday I helped my little girls (and my friend Lisa) gather mats for professions all morning. I actually managed to find 27 Truesilver ore that morning for Lisa's jeweler. That was an unusual amout for one mornings scavenging. The mats I found for Granuaile helped her Blacksmithing reach 196. Sweet. That afternoon/evening Sairalinde finished all the quests in Un'Goro. She then helped Guildies with quests. Late in the evening I got the mats together and asked my friend Graz if she would enchant Granuaile's new sword with Icy Chill. It looks so awesome enchanted that way. (I forgot to get a screenshot.) Thanks to Lisa Granuaile managd to get this:

      Whirlwind Sword
      Binds when picked up
      Two-Hand Sword
      82 - 124 Damage Speed 2.90
      (35.5 damage per second)
      +15 Strength
      +14 Stamina
      Durability 100 / 100
      Classes: Warrior
      Item Level 40

I'll post more on Granuaile later sometime. She has become my absolute favorite. :)

Sunday I planned on leveling Granuaile all day since her XP bar was finally blue. But Lisa needed help in Felwood with some quests so I had Sairalinde there for several hours. She managed to do some of the quests and nearly leveled too. It was fun. Then I finally got to Grainne and did every quest in Duskwood I could. I used the Whirlwind Sword and stayed in Beserker stance and killed everything I came across. It was great. I have definitely decided she will be a Fury Spec warrior.

All in all, it was a busy, successful weekend. I hope the week stays on the same course.

      Scary Stratholme
      Monday, January 14, 2008
I decided to start clearing Pallanen’s backlog of old quests yesterday morning. I have a few I’ve just never gotten around to doing yet. The first two I decided to try were ones in the Eastern Plaguelands. One was the quest to kill the Blightcaller. I knew he was an elite, level 61ish. I also knew he had a couple of dogs with him. But Pallanen handles that level elite pretty well these days so I went after him and his pets first.

      Big mistake.

I sharpened my blades, popped on an extra strength buff and an agility buff and charged in on him. Within about 10 seconds he totally wiped Pallanen up and still had over half his life left. Then the smartass stood there and said, “Next time bring friends.” LOL

I laughed hard about that one. I was thinking “No kidding.”

I tried it again just to see if I had been lazy in the attack but I got the same result. I will definitely need help killing that guy. Once I rezzed after the second time I backed off. Fighting him flags you and being PVP in that area isn’t the best idea.

So I moved on to the next quest which was a Master Swordsmith quest in Stratholme. I had been in a couple of groups that ventured into that instance but we never got very far. If you have never been there you are in for a treat. It is the scariest place I’ve visited yet. The buildings are all perpetually burning. The ads are all sick looking undeads. Even sticking close to the walls away from the ads gets you attacked by slugs that crawl out from the trash and boxes. They give you this nice disease that is debilitating and lasts 30 minutes. It is a beautiful resort town. LOL

Knowing all that I went for it anyway. Like a dope I just rode to the entrance and walked right in. I had forgotten that there is no retreating back out the front way. The gates close behind you. So I got ready and charged the first group. Pally managed to wipe them out fairly easily. But there was only one elite. So I tried out the next group. Two elites there. Pallanen took a beating but managed to kill them. Her health was pretty low though. So I decided to see just how many fights she could avoid since she was 70 and probably wouldn’t agro everything.

      Wrong again.

Sneaking along the wall Pallanen did manage to get past 2 groups and was headed toward the first gate until one of those roving eyes spotted her and set off the alarms. Suddenly everything within eyesight jumped on her. About 30 ads. Needless to say that didn’t work out.

So I got on Thottbot to see if there was a better strategy. I read about the back door to Stratholme and got the shortest directions. Then I rezzed Pally and hearthed out of there because I knew I’d need keys for the door. (I don’t have the Key to the City.) I made some Arcanite Skeleton Keys and repaired her armor (9g 67s!!!) and headed back. Getting inside wasn’t hard. But there turned out to be several gates to open. Luckily I had made 4 keys because it took all of them. I easily managed to avoid the groups in the roadway and got to the last gate and opened it. I pulled the closest single elite and moved on. Unfortunately there was a single group of 3 elites I did have to fight and when I was killing them one of those darn eye things saw me again. Once again the whole evil place jumped Pallanen. Once again, a trip back from the graveyard.

But it is an instance so the dead guys were still dead. I got back to where they were, looted them and moved on around the corner. There on the ground was what I was looking for. I grabbed the plans for the sword “Corruption” and then killed the Black Swordsmith guy who popped up. (I was expecting him.) Then I looted him for the quest item. What I wasn’t expecting were the slugs that crawled out from under the boxes and kept attacking Pallanen. (The ones I warned you about earlier.) They were easy to kill but they gave her 2 different diseases that are very debilitating. They last 30 minutes each too. That was a bummer because within sight was a large chest just waiting for me to open and loot. But in her condition I knew getting past the ads guarding it was not happening.

So I hearthed back to Shat, got a repair job (5g, 86s), found a Dranei that cured my diseases and headed to Winterspring to turn in the quest. The reward was the plans for the “Blazing Rapier”. Those I can make and sell unlike “Corruption” which is a ‘Bind on Pickup’ item.

So to further my Blacksmithing I spent 15g, 53s in repairs, about 2 hours game time, 2 gold in a tip for the healing (which wasn’t asked for, I just gave) and learned some stuff about attacking elites before knowing who and what they are. (Specifically the Blightcaller.) Know thy enemy is a good idea. lol

All in all, it was fun at least. Somehow I feel the need to get back into Stratholme and get that darn chest. It feels like unfinished business. Isn’t that weird? It probably isn’t even in the same location but I know that it will bug me. Maybe sometime soon I’ll have a (shorter) story posted about that particular treasure hunt. :P

      In Game Propositions
      Sunday, January 13, 2008
Merenwen was propositioned while riding the boat from Auberdine to Menethil. It was odd but it isn’t the first time one of my girls has met up with a would be Casanova. lol

This time it was by a lvl 19 Hunter with level 2 dagger and under level 10 armor. That in itself and the conversation made me believe it was a kid.

This is the gist of the conversation:

      Merenwen is on the boat…

      Hunter: Hi. Nice gear.
      M: Thanks :)
      Hunter: Your cute. (His spelling)
      M: (pause)
      Hunter: Your cute.
      M: I know
Hunter: Do you have a bf?
      M: Are you serious?
      Hunter: Your cute.
      Hunter: do you?
M: Uhmm, do you know this is a game?
Hunter: Do you have a bf?
      M: No. I’m a Mage. We don’t like boys.
Hunter: (after a long pause) Really?
      M: Really

Merenwen now jumps ship and runs toward the flight path.

Hunter: So if I asked you to be my gf you wouldn’t?
      M: That’s right.
Hunter. What if I ask anyway?
      M: Don’t

Merenwen is flying to Arathi now.

      Hunter: Why?
M: Because if you keep bugging me I will come back and turn you into a sheep.
      Hunter: (long pause again) Really?
      M: Yes.
      Hunter:Would I lose my pet?
M: Yes, after it ate you. Cats eat sheep.
Hunter: (long pause again.) Oh.... ok

I believe it was a kid. My friend Lisa says it was an old perv looking to be weird with a young kid. Whatever or whoever it was, it was weird. Sometimes people lose their grip on reality. But in game propositions happen a lot.

I guess there are freaks everywhere.

      Hordes in Darnassus Again
I noticed 2 nights ago that 2 Guildies were in Kara. I was jealous. lol I need to chat with my Guildie friend to see how she did. Then I noticed last night she was back in a BG. That’s the way the higher levels I know seem to play all the time. It’s the way they get the good armor and weapons too.

Seeing Guildies in Kara didn’t deter me from staying focused on Pallanen’s recent goals but it did make me want to be there too. I think this weekend I will try to get into a group for the remaining 2 Kara key frags. Pallanen isn’t wearing bad armor. It is actually pretty good stuff. But it isn’t awesome armor either. Her weapons are what are suspect (at least I believe). There is no way I want to be a liability in a Kara Raid group.

I was working on Granuaile’s last step in the Fire Hardened Armor series when I saw in general chat that Darnassus was being raided again by Hordes. Naturally I could not resist it and took Pallanen into the fight. When I arrived I found the main fighting around the tree/bank area. I just picked a red name and charged right in. I managed to kill that one fast. It was a Warlock who never saw it coming. Pallanen likes to kill casters of all kinds so it was satisfying. Then I attacked the closest horde to me which turned out to be a Mage. It went down in seconds. Then the Hordes noticed me and suddenly about 10 of them were on me. One of them had some kind of powerful stun move that made Pallanen just stop, all bent over. They got her.

So I rezzed and healed and jumped back in. I teamed up with a Mage and a Hunter and we managed to wipe out a couple more when suddenly the hordes surged right into where were were. It was like all of a sudden we wers urrounded. No warning. That darn stun thing happened again and they got Pally again. (I need to find out what that was and how to avoid it.)

When I rezzed and healed the fight had moved into the Druid’s Tree. They appeared to be after that dork of a head Druid guy. I headed up the tree but it was so crowded and attacks were coming from everywhere I just retreated a little. When a 70 Rogue gets you from behind you need to get out of the way and heal. They pack a huge punch.

Then some of the Alliance people started chatting about letting them kill the guy. Apparently I am not the only one who can’t stand him. He is an ass. One of the biggest in the game and there was a discussion about how nice it would be to watch him get wiped up. LOL Of all the characters in the game, he is almost my least favorite. (Murlocs are by far the worst things in the game to me.) But I can’t stand that guy. He is more rude and condescending than even the Horde characters are.

But I got tired of waiting and went up to fight anyway. Naturally being in the tight spots got me killed again. But not before dealing out a lot of damage first.

When I rezzed again I rode around looking for them but they were gone. Then realized the hordes were leaving. I went out to the docks and joined in the fight. We killed a bunch of them as most of them left on the boat. Then most Alliance flew to Auberdine to continue the fight. I had to get Granuaile out of the ocean (I left here mid-quest) so I left it to the others.

What happened next was funny. The Hordes were obviously a well organized group. They ended up attacking Menethil while Grainne was finishing her quest. Then they raided Dun Algaz. Then while she was flying to Ironforge I saw the alarms about Hordes in Dun Morogh. They were obviously headed to Ironforge.

Turns out they were trying for the King of Ironforge. That didn’t go so well for them. I turned in my quest and then stood beside the King to watch. The raiders only made it into the room once and that lasted for a few seconds. That King is very well guarded. They rezzed a few times and tried again and again but never made it back into the King’s room. Then they gave up.

It was an exciting evening. Pallanen gets honor points when she kills hordes like that but at this rate, she will never have enough saved for anything great. But the fight is a lot of fun. :P

      Blacksmithing
      Wednesday, January 9, 2008
I have been spending a lot of time trying to get Pallanen's Blacksmith skills higher. It isn't easy. I am finding that the higher level skills are difficult to level. Finding all the mats for even one higher level weapon is exceptionally hard. The cheap stuff, armor and weapons, cheap stuff, aren't too bad. But the stuff I want to make, the stuff someone else would want me to make, can be difficult to get everything together for. At times lately I've felt like it's not really worth all the effort.

For example, making a Phantom Blade is a very difficult proposition. Even though it is a lower level weapon (a great one btw) the mats for making it are very hard to get. Just getting the 6 Breath of Wind can take hours. Literally hours. I spent 5 hours over the weekend just to get the 6 I needed to make one. (No, it doesn't help Pally level anymore but it is a very popular sword.) Then you have to get the Aquamarine, which is just as difficult to get unless you know a Jewelcrafter. Jewelcrafters can prospect Mithril Ore and get Aquamarine. It is a random thing so a Jeweler has to have a lot of Mithril Ore to prospect and get 6 Aquamarine. Only stacks of 5 ore can be prospected. So figure that needing 6 Aquamarines and not getting one every time you prospect 5 Mithril Ore at a time.... it all adds up to needing a huge pile of Ore to get those stones.

After that you still need 28 Mithril Bars to make the sword. Then you need 2 Invisibility Potions so you have to buy them or know an Alchemist. The last 2 things, grinding stones and leather aren't too bad to get. But add all those things up if you were to buy the mats on the AH and you would easily be over 100 gold to make it. The sword usually sells for about 50 gold. I have seen them go for 60-65. I've watched them on the AH listed for a buyout of 70 gold and they usually don't sell. It's almost not worth making them.

Except that if you have used one, like Pallanen has, you know they are great weapons. Guildies love them. I think Pallanen has made about 15 Phantom Blades. Most of the time she has gotten the mats herself. Several times she has been provided mats. Never has she been provided all the mats.

One lucky thing about me is that I am a pack rat of sorts. In my bank are many, many different things that when I have found them and they looked important, I kept them. Even when I had no idea what they were. Without fail, because I saved them, they have come in handy now when I need them for Pally's skills. Recently this habit came in handy. I had no idea what Primal Earth was when I first came across it. But it looked important so I kept them when I got them. Turns out they are pretty important not to mention pretty expensive should I need to buy them. I recently noticed that I needed a couple of them and checked my bank only to find I had a good sized stash of them. Saved Pally a bundle. LOL

So last night I spent a lot of time Blacksmithing. Since last weekend I have managed to raise Pallanen's Blacksmithing level from 296 to 326. Mostly by knowing where to farm for mats and the happy discovery of stuff in her bank. (I had no idea I had saved 167 Fel Iron Bars! I also noticed that I have quite a load of Adamantite Bars saved. :) ) The plan is to get her skills high enough to make some of those awesome Purple swords that only Master Swordsmiths can make. Then she won't have to sweat it out doing instances with inferior weapons. Then I was toying with the idea of changing to Armorsmith to make the very high level armors available. I don't know how well that will work but it is my mind to do. Lately that is bout all Pally has been doing, other than helping lower levels get quests done. That is a never ending process. The first big bad purple sword is at BS level 350. I am pretty driven to get there. It will happen soon.

      Grouping Nightmares
      Friday, January 4, 2008
Last night was a great one for Granuaile. Thanks to my friend Lisa who helped her with her level 70 Hunter Grainne managed to do 4 quests in The Stockades, the last leg of the Fire Hardened Mail quest in Razorfen Kraul (instance) and one ‘red’ quest in Ashenvale, which happened to be on the way to R.K. The loot she scored in R.K. was awesome too. She now has blues stored up in the bank for several levels to come.

In between we brought Pallanen out and she escorted Lisa’s Druid through The Stockades to do her quests there. We both made out well.

This all got me thinking about how grouping can be such a pain when you don’t have high level friends to help out. I have had such rotten experiences grouping with Pallanen (especially) and then again with Sairalinde that I have a tendency to shy away from groups. But parts of the game require grouping. I think that sucks a bit but it is part of the game and I have to accept it. Especially now when I see how Pallanen will not have access to higher level gear without grouping for instances and PVP.

Pally’s history with groups has been sad. She has been in groups that have abandoned her in The Deadmines, in Gnomer, in Blackfathom, in The Scarlet Monastery, in Zul’Farrik (sp?) and in just plain bad situations. The first time it happened in the Deadmines three of the group got whatever they wanted and left just me and a Mage to fend for ourselves. (It was just after that big mechanical guy in the Mast Room.) Imagine being in the Deadmines the first time, level 20ish with just a Mage and a Warrior together. Naturally, that didn’t work out well.

The worst time for Pally was when she was in the cave just below Nethergard Keep doing a Warrior quest with 2 other Warriors.

Pallanen got the Warrior quest to kill 50 (!!!) of the bad guys just below the Keep and inside the cave there. While doing it 2 other Warriors came by doing the same thing. They asked if I wanted to join them and I did, thinking that Warriors ought to band together. lol Well, we did very well until the other two apparently chatting amongst themselves, got all the kills they needed. Deep inside that cave they just all of a sudden said goodbye and hearthed out leaving Pallanen surrounded by mobs her level and one or two levels higher. Pallanen is tough to kill but the numbers just didn’t add up to a good experience.

I tried to hearth out as soon as I saw what was happening but got attacked. Pally managed to kill off that first one and then I tried to hearth again but that didn’t work out. I tried to retreat back the way we had come but not too far up the path the mobs were respawning. There was never a time when I could have time to hearth. They got Pallanen. Then I rezzed her where I thought she would be OK to get healthy but once she was back to full health these roving mobs found her and killed her again.

Now…… I have a thing for not rezzing at the Spirit Healer. The cost to a Warrior wearing plate is high plus that 10 minutes of sickness is like a huge failure to me. So I tried to fight my way out of the mess I was in 2 more times before I finally gave up.

Pallanen took a beating that day and it cost her in terms of gold and maybe even pride. :P The one thing it also did was make me more determined than ever not to group ever again. From that time on (maybe level 50ish) I never grouped again until recently with good Guild members. None of my alts have grouped again either until recently.

Two days after the cave incident one of those Warriors asked me to group and do the last part of the Warrior quest in the Sunken Temple. I was shocked and really let him have it. He acted all surprised and eventually apologized. Then for a few days he kept asking me to do S.T. I eventually just blocked him. He didn’t get it. One shot at screwing me over is all you get.

To me grouping should be better respected by players of all ages and levels. To get into a group and leave once you have finished with your personal goal(s) is disrespectful and sick. When I do group I never leave until I make sure everyone has gotten what they needed out of whatever we were trying to do. I’m not sure what makes a person feel it’s OK to screw someone over and feel that it is no big deal. It is a very big deal. Yes, it’s just a game. But to me if you are willing to do that to someone in a game, you probably suck in real life too. I don’t want to know you in either situation.

Respect other players. Respect your groups or stay out of them. That’s what I’m trying to say here. A bit long winded but still………… :)

      Status Quo
      Thursday, January 3, 2008
I really don’t have too much to chat about today. I have been playing in the evenings like usual. Granuaile is in the middle of the Warrior quest(s) for Fire Hardened Mail. I managed to quickly complete the first leg of that last night. Getting 50 spider fangs in the Wetlands. Its funny how a lot of Warrior quests have huge numbers of things to collect like that. lol

I’ve been taking Jaelle to Dustwallow Marsh a lot lately. There are quite a few new quests there since the last big patch. But they are buggy. I was doing the one (forgot the name) where she had to get the diving equipment and swim around the ocean floor looking for ship wreck debris. All the while fighting Defias and Murlocs. (Have I mentioned how much I hate Murlocs?) Every now and then everything would just stop. Jaelle would have her bonus attacks up to 5 and be trying to use it and everything would stop. A couple of times for 20 seconds or so. Then suddenly the strike would happen and the mob would be dead. It was strange. But she managed several quests and got to 41 last night.

That quest line is cool since it obviously ties in with the Defias kidnapping the King of Stormwind. The end of the string makes that very obvious. One thing I’m not sure of is if the Island with all the high level mobs was always there. They were too high level for Jaelle to see what they were but I may bring Pallanen over just to explore the area. (And to kill things. lol )

So tonight I will be taking Granuaile to The Charred Vale for the second leg of the Warrior quest. She will be there a while because I plan on doing all those quests in the area. No sense traveling there and then coming back later for the normal quest line. I plan on going further to Desolace just to get that flight path while I’m there too. Just for the future traveling.

Not too exciting a post today. But not every WoW adventure is all wind, piss and excitement. Right? LOL

      Obsessed
      Tuesday, January 1, 2008
I have found myself broderline obsessed with my new Warrior Granuaile. I have spent most of my game time leveling her. She is now 23 and soon will be 24. Her Mining is at 123 already and her Blcaksmithing is nearly 130. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my Warrior Pallanen was my first character and I had to do everything the hard way. At times it was very hard trying to figure out how to play the Warrior and being without materials and money all the time.

Now Pally spoils her little Warrior sister and doing the hard quests isn't so hard anymore. Avoiding the mistakes is easy too. Granuaile has almost all blues for armor. Her weapons are always the best available. Blues only. Pallanen mines for her all the time so her skills are pretty high for her level. And of course, her sister Merenwen enchants everything she uses. Jaelle makes her potions of all kinds. Earane makes her nice jewelry. She is a spoiled sister for sure. lol

I have given the other girls precious little play time. I am getting tired of Grainne's xp bar turning purple all the time so I think I will slow down with her the next few days until it is all blue again. But that is hard. She just got the Fire-hardened Mail quest(s) and I really want to do those. :P

It doesn't help that my best friend Lisa started a Druid at about the same time. She loves her Druid and we have done a lot of quests together. The 2 characters are the same level still. Plus her 70 Hunter helps Granuaile with instances and Pallanen helps her Druid the same way. It has worked out well for both of us. (I think Lisa is obsessed with her new girl too.)

I suppose this is what the term "Twink" is all about. I don't care for the term but I get it now.

I read recently that with the new expansion anyone with a level 80 can make one of the new characters available with the add on. The new alts will alos be high level to start with. It should be very cool. That is excellent but presents a problem. I already have 10 toons. I'll have to delete one of them. Or move one to a different server. I am reluctant to do either thing but I will want one of the new ones on this server. I may make one of my girls rich and transfer her to a different server. Then I'll have the space available for the new girl when Pally hits 80. Oh, decisions, decisions.... lol

OK, times a wasting. Happy New Year to all. :)

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
