      Elenai Is 40
      Monday, February 23, 2009
Elenai is level 40 now. She has been a busy girl in Southshore, Dustwallow Marsh, Arathi, Nightsong Woods and Stranglethorn. I had been trying to do all the quests in each area before leaving but that apparently isn't possible with her current level. Quests in these areas have too great a level range so I have been doing a lot of traveling to get the level appropriate quests done. I will get the total of each area done eventually but not all at once.

With the possible exception of Dustwallow because I really don't like it there.

The more I play Elenai the more I am impressed with what a Rogue can accomplish. It is obvious to me now that I have badly misjudged just how good a character the Rogue is. Elenai can get through situations that many other characters just wouldn't be able to. She also can deal a ton of damage in a very short time. That has saved her many times now.

Elenai was doing the beginning of the Colonel Kurzan quest line in Stranglethorn over the weekend. She was mowing down the Medicine Men and Jungle Fighters easily. But if you've done that first step you know the Fighters are not plentiful. What made them more scarce was that there was a Warrior running around killing them too. I watched him for a while, just because I like watching other Warriors do their thing. (I'm always Pallanen at heart, y'know.) He did OK but if he encountered more than 2 mobs he had serious trouble. I ended up jumping in and helping him survive many times. Eventually we grouped up to complete the quests.

At one point he charged a group of 2 bad guys near the biggest house there. Unfortunately he aggroed 5 bad guys at the same time. He didn't see the ones inside I guess. He started running and yelled for me to run. I ran after him, trying to get the bad guys off him but it was too late. He was dead and there were 4 left. Naturally they turned on me. But I wasn't too worried. I decided to stay and fight, thinking that I could use Vanish should I get into bad shape. But I never did.

I killed the Medicine Men first because they heal each other. Then I killed the 2 Jungle Fighters. I only used one Healing Potion to do it. By the time the Warrior rezzed and came back I was sitting and eating a snack to heal up with dead guys all around. He kept saying how he couldn't believe I had killed them all on my own. By now I've gotten used to Elenai doing stuff like that so I wasn't too surprised. He stuck close by me from then on and we finished up that quest easily. :)

But Elenai doesn't always just kill everything to finish quests. I was doing the quest in the Ruins of Alterac to get all the lost books for the Librarian guy in Stormwind. She was 32 at the time but the Ogres she needed to kill for the first 5 books were 34-35. Not a stretch for her. But that last book is inside the Ruins and guarded by a level 40 guy. Now that was another story.

Elenai had leveled to 33 when I stealthed into the ruins to get the last book. I got to the building OK but when I tried to go into the room with the level 40 guy (I forgot his name) he could see me pretty easily. He attacked me as I tested the distance to see how far I could get into the room. When he did, I did the natural thing, I fought back. I didn't run on purpose. I really just wanted to see how well Elenai could do against him. :P

      It didn't go well.

He never went below 1/2 health. Even after using a healing potion and everything Elenai had to use, he whipped her good. lol

So I came back and slowly inched my way toward the fat guy, waiting for my Sap red light to turn white. As soon as it did, I Sapped him and while he was all dopey I grabbed the last book and ran. Piece of cake. LOL

So Elenai is 40, just 18 days after she was born. Things are going well for her. There are a couple of drawbacks to leveling so fast. One is that her armor and weapons don't keep up. Meaning that after a few levels thier deficiency shows up. Especially in the damage her weapons do on higher level mobs.

The second drawback is that her professions suffer a bit. Not in that she can't level them. Her Mining is a good level and her Skinning is almost to 300 already. It's that her bank is full of stuff and her other skills are lacking. I need to take a break and level her Cooking and First Aide. I also have to be better at leveling her Lockpicking. I may take a night just for doing those things. Then get back to leveling. I just can't wait to do PVP with Elenai. I also am really looking forward to Raiding with the Guild. Elenai's Guildies are great so far. I hope they stay that way.

So that's where we stand today. It's a happy Monday so far. :)

      Sidetracked
      Thursday, February 19, 2009
Leveling with Elenai has gotten a little sidetracked this week. By now I had hoped to be close to level 40 but 32 is all I have managed to reach. My bff Lisa has been leveling her Druid and needed some help so I have been helping her. A lot. lol

Her Druid is now level 50. When we started the week she was 47. She had gotten to the point where she had a lot of group quests and couldn't find decent help to get them done. We all know how PUGs can be so that isn't a surprise.

So I brought Pallanen over to the Badlands and helped her with those elite dragons there. The quest is the one where you get the gems from all those pillars to open the big pillar. Then 2 big dragons with names come out and you have to kill them. She was having a hard time with the elites.

One thing that surprised me about the quest was that the guardians in the area are all elites but the ones who pop out of the last pillar are not. They are simple little level 50s. They once were elites but not anymore. This is the kind of thing that really bugs me about the game now. There was a challenge to that quest when my girls did it. Now the "bosses" are wimpier than the protectors. That just makes no sense to me.

      Anyway....... lol

After doing that (disappointing) quest we went into Uldaman. She had a few quests in there. It was easy for Pally to clear that place out for her. But it wasn't all that easy to find our way around. We got lost a few times. (It's been a very long time since I've been in there. I couldn't remember the way. :P) But we managed to figure everything out. Then when we killed the last Boss we both got credit for the achievement.

Which brings up another point..... I thought that any instances your character has done in the past were already credited to your achievement list. That is obviously not true since Pallanen did Uldaman several times in the past. I wonder if that means I need to go back to all the low level Dungeons and do them again?

So last night I brought Sairalinde to Tanaris. Lisa needed a run through Zul'Farrak. I brought Saira because she has the Mallet of Zul'Farrak and Pallanen doesn't. So we went inside and began the long, long journey through all the mobs.I had learned a lesson from Uldaman so even though Lisa didn't need all the bosses in the instance, we went to them all and killed tham anyway. I wanted the achievement. (Sairalinde has done Zul'Farrak before but I didn't trust it.)

We had 2 hiccups along the way. One time when we were killing the boss that lives in the cave (I forget his name) Lisa went too close to the hill and 6-7 mobs jumped her. I didn't see it in time and even though I tried, she couldn't shake them. She got her first trip to the graveyard. Because of that Sairalinde got mad and went around the area and wiped out all the mobs in sight, waiting for her friend to come back.

We had a second hiccup in the open area just below the big pyramid with all the steps. Lisa got anxious and ran up to a couple of Trolls only to find that there were about 5 more behind the little building that she hadn't seen. Another trip to the graveyard for her as Sairalinde killed everything around.

We then went and did the quest on top of the pyramid thing. That one is easily one of my favorites. It's a long fight but so much is happening. It is cool. Once we finished that one we went and cleared the area where you use the Mallet to call Gazrilla (sp???). Well, we cleared the area and then killed the boss and guess what? Lisa never got the quest for that one. LOL I had reminded her to get it before we left work that day but she hadn't gotten it. :P

We then went into the last boss area and easily wiped them out. Both of us getting the achievement for Zul'Farrak. (You see? Sairalinde has done that one more than once before.)

We left and I told Lisa to go to the Shimmering Flats for the Gazrilla quest. We could do that one easily since there is a shorter way to get to him in Zul'Farrak. She wanted me to help her with the Super Sticky quest in Un'Goro first so we went and did that. It does take a while for a 49 to solo that one since the mobs are 50-54. Then we went back, got the Gazrilla quest, went back into Zul'Farrak and finished that up. When Lisa turned those last 2 quests in she leveled to 50.

So it was a fun week so far. No progress for my girls, except for some achievements, but it has been a lot of fun. I will be back to Elenai tonight hopefully. If not, she will finally have a bit of rest bonus to work with for a change.

One thing that will be fun soon is that Pallanen will have to go into Zul'Farrak for the achievement. I am really looking forward to doing that. If you have a Fury Warrior you know why. Taking her into that place, taking on 10-12 mobs at a time and especially doing the big pyramid fight, will be very cool. I think that will happen very soon. Pally like those types of things, y'know? LOL

      Feelin Rogue-ish
      Monday, February 16, 2009
I had plans to Raid with Ki'Leana and her Guild over the weekend. It didn't happen.

I planned on working on Pallanen's Blacksmithing over the weekend. That didn't happen.

I considered leveling Sairalinde a few levels over the weekend. That didn't happen.

Instead, with the time I had to play, I was Rouge-ing it all over Azeroth. :P

I ended up playing Elenai exclusively this past weekend. She is now level 30 and should hit 31 tonight sometime. Elenai is a lot of fun to play. She is also a treat to fight with. I think it's easier to play her because I am taking such a different approach with her than with any of the other girls. I want her to be the most experienced and well rounded Toon I have. I do not skip quests. I have her experience everything in an area until there is nothing else to see. I try and make sure her gear is as good as possible (which is very hard on her server). Basically, I am taking all the game experience I have and applying it as best I can. It seems to be working out.

So far Elenai has completed every quest in Elwynn Forest, Westfall (including the Deadmines), the Redridge Mountains & Lakeshire, Duskwood & Darkshire, and has done several quests she got in Stormwind, including the Stockades. Along the way there has been a smattering (like that word?) of other quests she has done to help her out. Some in Darkshore and Teldrassil, some in Loch Modan and a few in Stranglethorn. The girl is getting around. lol

When it comes to the Rogue Elenai I have found that I am not afraid to take on mobs many levels higher than herself, given the right circumstances. For example, She had 2 quests in Duskwood to go to the Ogre Mound there. I didn't think much of it until I got there and checked out the place. Elenai was 25 and most of the Ogres are 30 there. But I wanted to do the quests in order so I decided to give it a go.

I expected mobs that high to be able to see though her stealth so I was very careful to not get close to more than one at a time. I managed to get her behind several Ogres that were in her way and Ambush them before taking them on. That really helped. Then I got her inside the Ogre cave and took on one Ogre at a time until I got to the Boss.

He was harder. Mostly because I didn't see that there was another Ogre nearby. So when I tried to Ambush the Boss, his friend saw me first. I did manage to get the Ambush on the boss before being attacked so that helped. It was a long and nasty fight but Elenai won it. Using her combos and a healing potion plus a healing balm thingy I had gotten from another quest as a reward she did well. Oh, and during the fight with the second guy she stunned him and used a bandage. (Luckily she is already on the silk bandage level.) In the end she had almost zero health but she had just killed 2 Ogres 5 levels higher than herself. I was seriously impressed.

So where Elenai is lacking now is her Lockpicking. I have to go back to Redridge and swim for a while in the Lake to level that. I also have slacked a bit with her cooking. She is helped a lot by the buffs the cooked food gives her. She is also due a change in Daggers. That will make me sad. The daggers she carries have the Firey enchant on them. The Firey buff does some damage too, alongside the normal blade damage so that will be a loss. But she does have 2 enchanted Daggers in the bank that Merenwen sent along. They have +3 damage, not Firey on them but they are level 31 Daggers.

I did manage to get Elenai into the Guild (finally) yesterday. That was nice. My friend from work was on for the first time that I had noticed and her fiancee was also on. So he invited me to join and that was that. So Elenai is now a member of Weekend Warriors. :) The Guild so far is nice. It reminds me so much of Pallanen's favorite Guild, the defunct Viva la Alianza. Everyone is friendly and chatters a lot. Lots of jokes and they are very helpful. It is a basic relaxed atmosphere. A nice change from my recent Guild experiences.

So my experiment in Rogue leveling is great so far. I am loving it and don't see why I won't continue. Elenai was born on the 5th and has leveled 30 times since. 30 levels in 15 days surprises me. Without any rest bonus either. I know it will slow down as she gets to higher levels but for now, I'm liking the sound of that. Soon I will be able to do the lower level raids with the new Guildies. Till then, I will just keep Rogue-ing it up. LOL

      General Thoughts Today
      Friday, February 13, 2009
Last night I made the decision to just keep leveling Elenai. I had slowed down hoping to get through the Deadmines one more time to complete the Defias armor set but I've had no luck. So I started questing again.

Elenai is working it in Redridge/Lakeshire. She has also been swimming at the bottom of the lake to level her lockpicking. How come they keep putting lockboxes for Rogues at the bottom of bodies of water anyway? lol I did one dumb thing last night. I decided not to take my time getting to Lieutenant Fangore and tried to stealth to him without clearing the area first. I should have remembered that no matter how far away from the group he is they will aggro when he is attacked. So Elenai suffered a bit for my impatience. Truthfully, I didn't even get to Fangore while stealthed. He saw through the stealth and then 5 guys jumped poor Elenai. It was ugly. :P

I didn't totally forget all the stuff in Redridge though. I was doing the quest where you need to kill those annoying little dragon things and when Elenai skinned them and some dragon scales popped up, I knew to keep them. Long ago when Sairalinde was doing those quests I would just sell those things. Then one day she got the recipe for using them for Leatherworking. This time around, at least I remembered they were useful to someone.

Elenai is level 23 now. Once she leveled I took her back to Stormwind and put on some gear that she had in her bank. I left her there to get some rest bonus. Tonight I have to work on her Cooking. She has 8 scrolls for recipes to learn and a ton of mats in her bank that I need to clear out. All I need to do is get her Cooking level a tiny bit higher and she can learn those recipes. So for the first hour that's what she will be doing. Then back to Redridge to finish up the area (hopefully). I've never had any of my characters cook so Elenai will be my first one. It's OK so far.

I took Ki'Leana out of hibernation to do some mining also. I haven't played her in a long time. Since she got her epic flying mount she has no gold at all. So I'm going to try and mine on a semi-regular basis to replace her money. Like I said in a previous post, I suck at the money part of the game. All of my girls are usually broke. lol

When I log onto the Hordies these days I get a sinking feeling in my stomach. I can't decide if it is because of the Guild Ki'Leana is in or if the old feelings about the Horde in general are back. I don't care too much for Horde of any kind. They tend to be ugly and usually mean to each other. But my feelings may just be the bad taste the Guild has left in my mouth. I wonder sometimes if I took Ki'Leana and worked with some other players would I like it better. I'm not convinced but who knows, right?

For those who have followed here you will notice one of my Horde girls is gone. Eville, the Priest on Kul Tiras is gone. Deleted. I knew I would never level another Priest again. Trust me, never again with a Priest. lol I also believe I won't level another Horde but that isn't a sure thing. I feel obligated to Aerynel at least. After the fun adventure she had on the PVP server, where she was originally born, I really don't want to delete her ever. (If you weren't around for that story, here it is. It was quite an adventure. :) ) I also feel a little bit attached to Rubacuori for some reason. Who knows what will happpen with those toons. ???

So basically these days I am doing whatever floats my boat when I log on. Not feeling a need to level in a hurry, like I did with Ki'Leana and Pallanen, is nice. I am looking forward to the weekend. :)

      Elenai
      Wednesday, February 11, 2009
      Say hello to Elenai. :)

There are some general pics. Just to debut her nicely here.

Elenai happily reminded me how much I like Rogues. Rogues are very unique in the game of WoW. I have wanted a high level one for a long time. I still intend to get Jaelle to 80 this year. Elenai will be 80 this year also, barring any new distractions. :P

I had a bit of trouble adjusting to Elenai. Only because I was used to the abilities that Jaelle has. I missed Ambush and Vanish and my Poisons a lot. (Still don't have Vanish yet but soon she will. :) ) So early on I had issues fighting with her. That is especially tough in the "in-between" ages of maybe 9-16. Those levels can be a challenge for a Rogue in my opinion. For whatever reason it seems like they struggle then. I also remember Jaelle struggling in her mid-30s so I have that to look forward to.

What I missed the most about the early levels was definitely Ambush. You don't get that ability until level 20. Once a Rogue can ambush a bad guy they have the upper hand. Taking half a mobs life with one shot before they can even see you is a huge bonus. Not to mention a lot of fun. I use it as much as I can.

Elenai is a tough cookie. She has already completed the Deadmines twice. She still needs to go again to get the Defias chest armor. (I want to have the whole set for once.) But while inside the instance at level 18 she did a lot of damage to those guys. She managed to save the hotshot Paladin twice by killing an elite mob that was working him over. A good Rogue is like that. Freeze them in place, run around behind and use Backstab and they are hurting.

At level 20 I was killing 3 Orc mobs in Redridge at the same time, all of them higher level than herself. She killed a 23 and two 22s and still had half health. Nice. Elenai even one shotted one Orc when her dagger procced (they have Firey enchants on them) along with a nice crit when using Ambush. It made me laugh. Elenai at level 21 took almost half of Bellygrub's health away in one shot too.

So it's been fun getting to know my new Rogue girl. I'm looking forward to getting her to 80 for sure. :)

      Noob 101
I made Elenai last Thursday. By Sunday she was 21. I didn't even try very hard and she had already done all the quests in Elwynn Forest and in Westfall. She did the Rogue quest for Lockpicking in Redridge and did several little quests she got in Stormwind. So without much work she leveled to 21 in 4 days.

Now for some people, 4 days would probably be enough to level a lot higher. Or for some it may seem like a lot. For me, once I realized where Elenai was, I was kind of impressed. The reason is simple, I still remember what a major Noob I was when I first started playing WoW 2.5 years ago. LOL What I mean is that I really had a hard time when I first started playing. I was the epidomy of Noob! and now, when I have a new character and I can level them up efficiently and quickly I am still reminded of just how long my learning curve for the game was.

Now keep in mind that I was not a Gamer at all back then. I had messed around with Civilization and CIV 2 for a while but I didn't play games much. That's why it took Lisa 6 months to talk me into trying WoW out. I knew I would have a hard time figuring things out. So be nice when you read this stuff.

It's OK to laugh though. :P

When I started playing and Pallanen was my only character, I really didn't have a clue. I knew nothing about the game, how to use her abilities, what gear would work best or even where the heck to go to find quest stuff. I remember when poor Pally was still in Shadowglen how I would start fighting a mob and didn't even know to use her spells/abilities to overpower them. I would run up to them and stand there letting her just hack away, hoping she would outlast the mob. The Warrior has the Heroic Strike from the start but I didn't use it. I didn't have a clue. Sad really.

Maybe I shouldn't admit to my uber-Noobness here? Reading this it's a little embarrassing already. hee hee

Once I figured out how to use that ability I was happy, to say the least. But I remember Pallanen dying a lot in her early days. I remember being in the Ban'ethil Barrow Den and struggling mightily to survive there. I was thinking that it shouldn't be so hard. Then I watched a Warrior one level below Pallanen come in and charge some mobs. He killed 3 of them and survived. So I swallowed my pride and asked how he did what he did. He was pretty nice about it and explained the abilities to me. Told me how and when to use what skills Pally already had. He even helped me practice while we quested. Pally had the Charge ability already but I didn't even know she did. Duh! Pallanen came out of the Ban'ethil Barrow Den a much better Warrior thanks to that nice person who took time to help and not make fun of my Noobness. I think that a person like that is rare in the game now. I wish I had known about saving their name in my friends list back then.

But my Noobness didn't end there. I was much more careful to study abilities afterward but once Pally got to Darkshore another world opened up. She now could choose Professions and also had Talent Points to apply. Neither thing did I understand well at all. My friend Lisa, who at the time had a level 50ish Hunter, was surprised to find that I wasn't doing any professions yet. She suggested that I take up Mining and Blacksmithing since those things could help a Warrior. So that's how Pallanen became a Miner and Blacksmith.

Pallanen was never well geared back then. I had no clue what buffs worked best for her. I looked at armor numbers and chose the highest. I did the same silly thing with weapons. Whatever was fastest I chose. No clue about damage, DPS, buffs, nothing. Pally struggled a lot unnecessarily.

I remember finding my first copper node as a miner. I had forgotten to buy a mining pick and was so pissed at myself for not knowing that. I ran all the way back to Auberdine and got one, then ran back to the node only to find that it was not there anymore. Naturally I also ran across that elite stealthed cat Shadowclaw just north of Auberdine. (He was elite at that time anyway.) Needless to say that didn't go well.

During her many quests in Darkshore Pallanen gathered a lot of copper and stone. I was taking them to the vendor and selling them, thinking how nice it was to make some free money. Duh! again. One day I opened my Blacksmithing up and noticed that I needed copper bars and Grinding Stones to make stuff. Thats when I realized that I was way off base again. So in short order I figured that part of the game out. That's when I noticed that Pallanen had crap gear. Some of the low level stuff she made was nicer than what she was wearing. Sad really.

Eventually Pallanen was nearing level 20. One day another player came by and asked me to go into Blackfathom Deeps. I had never even heard of it but I agreed to go. Then they asked me if I could Tank. I had to ask what the heck that meant. That's when they asked me what spec I was working on. Again, I was lost. So they just said goodbye and that was that. Looking back, I don't blame them for giving up. lol

But the lightbulb had gone off in my head. Apparently I had something else to learn. I had missed something else. So I asked Lisa and she explained to me about the Talent Tree and applying the points. So I spent a long time reading all the possible talents I could apply points to. It made my head spin trying to decide. Eventually I decided that most of the cool sounding stuff, the "Warrior" stuff in my mind, was all in the Arms Tree. So that's how Pally became an Arms Warrior.

Things were starting to get better now for Pallanen. But getting back to my first paragraph, Pallanen was not yet 20 and it had been a couple weeks of playing already. A couple of weeks and she wasn't 20 yet. Compared to 4 days now. :P

I also had a really bad problem back then with exploring. I would get Pally into deep trouble back then just by exploring areas and taking it too far. But I just couldn't resist exploring everywhere. From the beginning in Shadowglen I remember running her through the forest just to see what was out there. I ran her down to Lake Al'Ameth somehow when she was maybe 3-4. Those nasty elementals didn't want her there. They kicked her butt many times before I could escape the area. lol

I also ran her through Felwood before she was 20. Needless to say that once I got a good way up that path I had a real hard time getting back out. Then once I got her back out, after several trips to the Graveyard, I ran the road all the way to Aszhara. She got in hot water there too. :P

I remember my first trip through Arathi too. I just decided to run and find out where the heck that long road went. Well, after a long run I found that it went to Undercity. I didn't know what Undercity was so I went inside to see. Pally was in her mid-20s then. I tried exploring Undercity but that didn't go well. I also rememeber one Saturday afternoon trying to swim around the notherern area of Darkshore to get to the places on the map I could not run to. I wanted to see Moonglade and Winterspring. I spent a couple of hours trying to get there and never could. Why did I do crap like that? I have no idea but I did it. LOL

Eventually someone noticed me in Ironforge one day, mid-20s level, and asked me if I could Tank. They wanted to go into Gnomeregan. I thought about it and told them I would try, still not having a clue what a Tank really was. Pallanen was dual wielding 2 swords all the time then and she didn't even have a shield. So when the group finally assembled and we went inside, I charged the mobs with a sword in each hand, thinking we would wipe the place up. Yeah, right. It took us 3 deaths just to get inside the Instance entrance. (Everything was elite back then. I don't think it is now.) Once inside, we never made it past the first turn.

I accepted another offer to do Gnomer shortly after that fiasco and we did better but more or less, we got the same results. I was telling my friend Lisa about how hard it was doing Gnomer and that I thought I wasn't doing something right. That's when Lisa mentioned looking up the term on the net. It's also the same day she mentioned Thottbot to me and that turned out to be the best thing she did for my WoW gaming.

So I looked up Tanking. I was stunned to see just how far off I was. I immediately read up on everything I could about the subject. Turns out, there was a lot of stuff on the web. Soon I was working on being a better Tank for groups.

Eventually I started getting the game. Pallanen was Tanking instances well by the time she was in the 30's. She Tanked Scarlet Monastery & Gnomer many times. She Tanked the Stockades a lot. She Tanked Zul Farrak a few times. She has done Sunken Temple way too many times. (I really don't like that one.) She also began to level faster and with less trips to the GY.

Let's just say that I eventually figured out the game. I figured out how my Warrior girl was to be played. But for me, it was a long learning curve.

I look back and think that the game has become easier for me. Mostly because I learned everything the hard way. In my defense, I had never played a game like WoW before. Learning all of it has been a quest in itself. But it is an easier game for everyone now too. A lot of the quests have become much easier to do. All the elites have disappeared from some of the areas where they once were. I think Arathi is a great example of that. The Keep there was all elite. Everything in it. Now nothing in there is elite.

At any rate, my girls these days are happy that I have figured out the game. They die less, grow faster, prosper better (even though I am still not good at the money part) and generally are good in groups. I have never called anyone a Noob either. I was one long after I should have been. So when someone asks me for help, normally I will give it.

But boy, was I ever a Noob once. Sheesh! lol

      (Near) Death Of A Shaman
      Monday, February 9, 2009
I nearly deleted Erenrai, my little Shaman, twice this past week. I am not enjoying her much. But I realize that playing the lower levels isn't a good representation of what the characted is all about and that is one reason I am reluctant to delete her. (There is another new reason too. I'll get to that.) I think that's what has saved her so far.

I even went so far as to type in "DELETE" on the delete character screen but cancelled it. Twice. Talk about near misses. lol

I did transfer her to another realm though. I did it so I could send my new Rogue some good stuff. Yes, I made another character. I know, I have way too many now. Bear with me....

Anyway, I have always wanted a high level Rogue. My friend at work started talking to me last week about how she and her fiancee started playing WoW last year. Actually, he had been playing a while and she joined in last Fall. So I made a Rogue on her server so we could play together. She is very cool and so is her guy. They live in my own too and sometimes we hang out together. So I didn't think twice about it. Except for the part where I have way too many characters already.

But there is one thing I didn't want. That was to start over again cold. No money, no gear... yada yada yada.... so I considered moving Jaelle to the new realm. I almost did it too. Almost. But my silly sentiment got to me and I didn't. Sentiment in that Jaelle has been a part of my main girls for a long time. She and Pallanen, Merenwen and Sairalinde have been working together for a long time and I just don't want them seperated. So.....

I made a new Rogue and then loaded up Erenrai with nice gear and some gold and transferred her to that realm. My new girl didn't have to start cold and I intended to delete the Shaman afterward. But then I realized that I could use the Shamans bank slots for storage so I haven't deleted her. Yet. I also think I may keep trying to like her in my spare time. I'll try anyway. :P

Long story short, I have a new character that I really, really like. I have a friend in my same town on the same server with a fun Guild, one very much like Pallanen's original Guild that I miss so much. I have a diversion for when I need a break from the Kul Tiras stuff. It's all good right now.

As for the Horde Guild.... well, lets just say that situation gets worse and worse all the time. Poor Ki'Leana may never get any further. It was a mistake trying to play on the realm with those hardcore guys. I'm just not cut out for it. Neither is my bff Lisa. She was treated badly again over the weekend. She will probably move her girls somewhere else soon.

So I have been sucked into another place to play again. This time it looks to be much more promising. The new place is full of people who just want to enjoy the game. They seem to remember that it is just a game, nothing more. Between leveling my new Rogue, who I plan on debuting here tomorrow, I will be leveling Sairalinde and Pallanen's Blacksmithing. Someday I will get around to Jaelle and Merenwen. Obviously that won't be soon. lol

To Dungeon Or Not To Dungeon?
      Tuesday, February 3, 2009
This post is actually an answer to Ian's question from my previous post. I tried to answer his question in a nice short and sweet manner but somehow that never works for me... well, I should say usually doesn't work with me. Sometimes I manage it. Normally I don't. :)

Referring to my point about Pallanen not finding any gear upgrades from 70 to 80, the question was simply "Have you run no dungeons?"

Ths simple answer is "Nope, not with Pallanen nor with Ki'Leana."

Now for the not-so-simple answer.... lol

Why? For several reasons. First, I was pretty bent on leveling to 80 and never took time to do any of the Dungeons in the new game. Both Ki and Pally have a long list of quests in various Northrend Dungeons still in their quest logs. (Ki has 17 of them. I counted.)

The second reason is different for both girls.

For Pallanen the reason is basically that she no longer has a Guild to run with. As I documented a few months ago, Pally was in a great Guild that ran Kara almost every night. I was very active with them. Pally did a lot of Tanking and DPS with the old Guild. Kara became very familiar.

But after the demise of the Guild I added Pallanen to my personal Guild just to keep all the hounds out there from throwing up Guild invites in my face. That is so annoying. My personal Guild isn't a real Guild per se. It's just a place to hide my alts and my bff's alts. We don't have a bank or anything but I did make a nice Tabard. :)

Also, I have learned my lesson with PUGs. I stay clear of them. They rarely work out well. So Pallanen has basically been without the means to do Dungeons. Recently several of my old Guildies have asked me to come and Raid with them. I may do that. We'll see.

As for Ki'Leana, other than the big rush to get to 80, I haven't done Dungeons because her Guild kind of sucks. The people can be kind of rude. They seem more concerned with the gear they can get and nothing else. More concerned with what the group can benefit for them, not what the group goal is supposed to be. Even if a drop is a very minor upgrade and for someone else it is a huge upgrade, the needy person doesn't always get the drop. Their system, to my way of thinking, keeps the balance askew.

They have so many rules to raiding with them too, including some kind of dues system (which I haven't bothered to read up on yet). They went and made me/Ki'Leana a class leader even before Ki was 75. Then they set all these rules down that I was supposed to follow/enforce. It is silly to me. It is a game and I think some of them lose sight of that. It's supposed to be fun, not some hardcore slave-driving gang thing.

The bottom line is, it's just not fun to Raid with uber-hardcore players.

Now, these are generalizations and usually generalizations aren't fair. I get that. But for the most part, it's the truth. If the truth offends someone, so be it.

With that being said, there are several Guildies that are pretty OK. Some are 80 and OK to play with. There are some that haven't made it to 80 yet that don't seem so bad. I have taken Ki'Leana into lower level Dungeons and helped some of the lower level ones out. Usually somewhere in Outland. Most recently the Arcatraz. So not all of them are dorks. Just the ones who think they are god's gift to WoW. (And I'm sure if they read this they know I'm talking about them. :P)

The final part to this answer is simply that I don't think Dungeons and/or Raiding are much fun. They are time consuming and usually fruitless since so many others need gear too. Doing a raid 10 times and getting maybe 1 nice item is silly to me. That is a lot of game time wasted in my mind.

Now, if I could get into a group that wanted to actually Raid in order to kill every Boss in the game, up to and especially including the Lich King, then I would maybe take it more seriously. But neither of my level 80 girls have that kind of group available to them. Ki'Leanas Guild talks like that is the way they want to go but so far, I have my doubts.

So thats my take on it all. To Dungeon Or Not To Dungeon? That is the question..... I don't really have a good answer to it for myself. So I will PVP and Blacksmith for gear and hope some cool Guild comes along like my old one. Then who knows where it will lead?

So Ian, the answer to your question is easy. No Dungeons so far for my big girls.

      Shrinking Crit.....
I have noticed something disturbing as Pallanen has leveled from 75 to 80; her crit chance has shrunk. It shrunk a lot. At 75 it was 30.03% and now it is barely 20%. It's sure a good thing I haven't been doing any PVP recently. lol

Another odd thing I noticed was that Pally went all the way from 70 to 80 and never found any better armor. No upgrades at all. I was hoping for something better but I guess her PVP stuff was/is pretty good.

That being said, she now has access to better stuff at level 80. She can make some good things or buy better stuff. But I was hoping for freebies, y'know? :P

I am toying with the idea of respeccing Pallanen for a while. Just because I'm kinda tired of the Fury spec. There is no other reason really. Just a change. Most of the armor at 80 she can make has Stam, Strength and Defense or Hit rating. I'm thinking I may respec her so she can Tank again. Not a Main Tank (cuz I don't like that pressure) but Off Tank is fine. I could raid with my old Guildies if I wanted to. I miss them and they would like me to run with them again. I won't rejoin the Guild but raiding with them might be fun.

But we all know how long these impulses last with me. If I'm going to do it I should do it now because the urge will be gone soon. LOL

Yesterday a friend at work overheard me talking with one of the guys about WoW. She came over and started telling us how she had started playing back in November and how much she loved it. She and her fiancee play together and have a Guild that sounds like a lot of fun. They do stuff like naked runs through the Deadmines. That made me laugh. It sounded to me like Pallanen's days in Viva la Alianza. We did fun stuff like that too. I told her how VLA would always have a naked dance party on the Stormwind Fountain when one of us reached a milestone, like the first mount of level 70. (Ahhhh.... those were the days. lol) So she mentioned that I should have a character on her realm so we could play together. Immediately I thought that it sounded good but then I had a flashback to the days I felt that way and made Ki'Leana. That hasn't turned out well. But then I thought that I could move one of my girls that doesn't get enough play time and occasionally play there. I think thats what I will do. Probably move Earanel and have a little fun with some new friends.

Ok, time to get busy with the real world. It sucks that reality interferes with WoW so much, doesn't it? :P

      Pallanen Is 80!!!
      Monday, February 2, 2009
Pallanen is finally level 80! My favorite girl leveled to 80 working on quests in the Scholazar Basin. I was there after finishing all the quests in Zul Drak (or is it Drek???) and was having a pretty good time too. lol

Pally sure can blow through some quests. It's like night and day questing with a Fury Warrior compared to a Priest. But whatever..........

After she leveled, doing one of the many Nesingwary "kill 15 of these animals and 60 of these animals" quests I actually stayed in the Basin to complete a really interesting quest line I had started. It was a series given by the Avatar of Freya. The quest "Force of Nature" begins the quest line. If you haven't done this line, I suggest you do.

Freya is a giant (and kind of pretty) woman in the north eastern area of the Scolazar Basin.

She is the protector of the Basin left there by the Titans. The quests eventually reveal that the crazy-ass cultists that are helping the Lich King have managed to destroy one of the protective Pillars that keep the undead Scourge out of the Basin. The many quests she gives you lead you to obtaining a giant killing machine called "The Etymidian" and stomping on 200 Scourge and 3 of their elite bosses. It was so interesting that I dropped all my plans for leveling Pallanen's professions (that was my plan for her after 80) and kept at the quest line until I finished it.

I like killing the Scourge. I sometimes really get into that part of the game of WoW. For instance, one of the quests that Freya gives you is called Exterminate the Intruders. You have to go into the Cultists camp and kill 8 Cultists and destroy 4 of their weapons of mass destruction. Well, those cultists really piss Pallanen off (:P) so instead of just killing 8 of them, she (and I) killed every one of them in that camp. It only seemed right to do that. Then Pally stood in the middle of the camp and had a good laugh at all the dead bad guys laying around. Somehow that felt good to me. LOL

      Silly yes, but fun. :)

I also talk to the dummies in the game. One quest in this line actually hearths you into the Un'Goro Crater via a "Waygate". (Apparently the Crater and the Basin are 'safe' places that the Titans have set up on purpose.) When Pally ran into the place to get the stone that activates the secret weapon you use to wipe up the Scourge, the head cultist there starts telling you how dumb you are. He says that you have lead them right to the only weapon that could defeat them and that you are going to die trying to get it back. I laughed at him and while Pallanen was busy dismembering him and taking back the gemstone, I was asking him when he was going to stop me from kicking his ass and taking back the gem. For his insolence, Pally spit on him after he was dead, took the stone back and headed back to Scholazar. hee hee

So Pallanen is 80 and I am happy. I have a few more quests in the Basin to finish and I'll be done there completely. I plan on completing every single quest in all the areas I visit eventually. I did manage to level Pallys Blacksmithing a lot after all that excitement. Tonight I think I will try and get all those Elder's stone thingys. I have never completed one of those types of achievements and having many of them already has me curious to see if I can get them all. Otherwise, I will be working on upgrading Pallanen's armor and professions.

Life in WoW is good on this bleak Monday morning. :)

      About Me

      Name: Jen
      Home: Pennsylvania, United States
About Me: I started playing WoW after my best friend bugged me to play. I soon learned that I really liked it. Now 2 years later I still play and have 20 characters. LOL I am no gaming expert. I am no WoW expert. A lot of the terms and "how to do's" elude me still. But I love to play. All you will find here are the adventures of Pallanen and her sisters. I love them all and they really kick butt. So stay tuned and maybe we can learn stuff from each other that we never knew. xoxo
